Iran

I don't want to violate the TOS, so if I were to say that the Iranian government is being run by a pack of raving loons, would that be a political or a psychiatric observation?

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

In my book this is simply just an accurate observation, which can't be seen as Political / Religious  as you make no mention, for instance, that they are Fundamentalist Raving Loons  - so it must be by definition just a psychiatric observation.
Now if you said something along the lines of these Pretend devout religious scum were using the in built frailties of all religions to further their own political ends, I think that could be seen as both religious and Political, so I think we shouldn't say anything like that.

It would be an astute observation.

Non political or psychiatric. Perhaps not even really an "astute" observation. On further thinking more like a " hello captain Obvious" observation.

as we used to say to each other in grade school...... when I was 10 in 1980 the conversation could have then this:

Me at age 10:  Iran is run by a pack of raving loons.

Billy my 10 year old friend: A DUH! Mr. Captain Obvious! Helloooooooo!

Ah the Stranglers  - my all time favourite band. Touring the UK starting 4th March as well for anyone interested - I'm hoping to catch them at Cambridge & Norwich.

I can still remember being in the front row at West Runton pavilion in my early teens back in the 70s bouncing around to Toiler when JJ jumped off stage & kicked 3 shades out of someone in the crowd. Turned out it was someone from my schools 6th form. When asked at school why the guy said "I don't know why he done that  I only called him a W&nker" LOL.

They've calmed down a bit now but still got a sense of humour - last time I saw them at the UEA JJ said to someone holding and swaying with a lighter to "Princess of the Streets" - "I don't know why you've got a lighter the only thing a lighter is used for at a Stranglers gig is to burn the building down"

Definitely in my top 5 FBB

I only caught them once - 1978 at the Malvern Winter Gardens when they were touring to promote Black & White. J-JB was on form that night as well, someone who spat on him received a glancing blow from the thick end of his Precision Bass!

Incidentally, the support band were the excellent Skids - Richard Jobsh1te on vocals and the marvellous (and sadly missed) Stuart Adamson on guitar.

They interviewed Hugh Cornwell on our local BBC Radio (Hereford & Worcester) station last week - I even managed to get through and ask him if he'd ever consider re-joining the Stranglers, even if it was just a one off. He said 'no' (as I'd expected) and said he actually enjoyed himself most as part of a 3-piece (guit/bass/drums) - one in the nuts for Dave Greenfield then!

I don't know if you can get it, but the interview's here (there's two days left before it expires): http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p00dj6cv - (from 2h:28m - 2h:46m) my contribution is read out at the very end

Have you read Cornwell's autobiography A Multitude of Sins FBB - or his excellent Stranglers Song By Song - both great reads if you haven't.

Luckily I'm not a member of the Iranian government, or I might be offended and have to report you.

But then I guess I'd really have to stop my raving and looning first, wouldn't I?

    Never mind.

In order, then, to discover the limit of deepest tones, it is necessary not only to produce very violent agitations in the air but to give these the form of simple pendular vibrations. - Hermann von Helmholtz, predicting the role of the electric bassist in 1877.

Yes I have, both signed being the sad git that I am. I've been lucky enough to have several conversations with him at various times. I caught him in a cafe in Norwich while he was touring his "blueprint" film - a sort of story of Hooverdam (one of his solo albums) film.

It was recorded at Toerag studios where the engineer/producer/owner uses loads of vintage gear, sets the band up and records them direct on to stereo two track. Obviously that was of particular interest to me and quite an interesting conversation, no he hadn't heard of Sonar either - knew Protools though. LOL

On the subjects of books the Stranglers biography "No Mercy" is worth a read as well.
