It is up to you:
I'm reporting abuse... and I am asking anyone who is sick of this stuff to do so as well. John T says "I couldn't find my keys earlier today. I swear to god, every place I could think of, they weren't there. GOD DAMN YOU CAKEWALK, I bellowed." http://forum.cakewalk.com/fb.ashx?m=2375502 It seems like some folks can be as offensive as they want and never seem to be held accountable. I believe the post was meant to be offensive and I don't see any reason why this behavior should be allowed to continue without comment. So here's what I posted: RE: http://forum.cakewalk.com/fb.ashx?m=2375502 This statement may be cloaked in the guise of satirical humour but it is just over the top. Has anyone at Cakewalk ever spoken to this guy about his unapologetic behavior? He routinely delivers personal insults without repercussion from moderators. The fact that moderators let this guy use words as violence each and every day seems related to the fact that he directs the insults against people who are critical of some aspect of Cakewalk. It's very disappointing to observe the editorial bias here at the forum. It seems as if John-T can say just about anything he wants as long as he is insulting Cakewalk customers that express dissatisfaction. Multiple people can report abuse on a single post... what you can do is select another post and report abuse and then simply refer to the contents of the offensive post. I suppose it's like a feature request. The more reports received the more likely some forum moderator will finally counsel Mr T about his behavior. all the very best, mike

I don't see this issue as one that is about who uses what. This is an issue of one person being permitted to consistently use words as violence with full intention to be hurtful while displaying no remorse.

Mike, did you also mention the "I hope you die in a fire" example? I've seen members banned for an awful lot less than that.

No, It takes two to tango... and I had stepped out on the dance floor. I don't really have it in for John-T even though he has insulted me directly on numerous occasions. It is frustrating to see that he enjoys the approval of Cakewalk's moderators and a complete anonymity while attacking other humans with words. This creates a scenario where the only effective recourse is to ask the moderators to consider counseling him to behave in a less violent manner. My hope is that he can learn to disagree with other people more politely. best regards, mike

I share your concerns regarding this individual, I thought he was a Cakewalk employee. The one responsible for the initial development of X1. I don't see this thread getting much traction Mike. It's likely that some person of authority already has it on their list of things to kill. The person in question acts as though they always wanted to be in charge of something but never had the chance. Instead he's a toadie that hangs around and feels obligated to try and correct the behavior of others. No, I can't support a mail in campaign, because tomorrow I could be the one upsetting people. What I think would be a better way to go would be an old fashion shunning. I can ignore 99% of what he says and the other 1% is almost funny if you frame it right. "I told em Seth, I told em real good, didn't I" Now if you think of that statement it's hard not to laugh at everything he posts. I'm willing to bet that anyone posting on this thread has a better chance of being made to disappear than John T, so try and relax. It's really not worth the hassle to launch a campaign over this. I don't want to see anyone getting shoved out the door. On any given day we are all capable of being fools or geniuses.

I think the only solution at this point is 2 forums: 1. An X1 "glass half empty" forum for those who are frustrated. 2. An X1 "glass half full" forum who want to have positive discussions regarding X1. And neither side should be allowed to post in the other's forum. Personally I don't spend much time bothering to read upstairs anymore. I can't take the frustration with either every thread discussing legitimate criticisms being infused with those wanting to complain about "whining", or every thread wanting to talk about something positive being taken completely OT by people just wanting to complain about something else. Almost everyone is guilty. But of course the other guys are always "more guilty".

Well, while it's true that anyone who continues to hit a hornets nest with a stick is bound to get stung I do think that ol JT lets his pent up frustrations and anger all too often get the better of him and he lets his mouth overload his rearend way too often. That, coupled with his deep and abiding love for the internal sound of his own words...read back to him...by him is a direct path to horsesbuttville. And if it were only these piddly failings I would have no standing at all to criticize him as I have whomped the hornets nest on occasion...let my anger get the better of me on occasion...and, self-evidently, absolutely love myownself in every way possible. BUT...publicly calling someone elses music appalling or suggesting they go "die in a fire" is one toke over the line sweet jesus. So dial it back a notch, will ya JT?

I haven't gone upstairs since my last post in which I responded to JT an hour or so ago. I'm half afraid to see what he responded to me with. It's shocking the things that have been said to me here and nothing has been done about it. It's quite clear to me that I'm not wanted here by Cakewalk and that's why they let the behavior toward me continue. There's no other rational explanation. Unfortunately Mike, I think you have fallen in to the same position I'm in. The reason why John T and others are allowed to go on like they do is one of the following ... they work for Cake/Rol, they are a 'partner' like CJ, they are beta testers and have a relationship with the company and the admin know it and can't do anything about it, the admin don't like us being so outspoken and allow it to continue as a slap in the face to us. Whatever it may be ... it's their forum and they can do what they want and I understand that. I reported the 'fire' comment. An admin came on 10 ~ 15 minutes later and was posting in another thread, but did nothing about the 'fire' comment. Maybe he didn't get the abuse report ... and missed the offending comment ... I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. I think eyes are watching and waiting for one of us to go over the line. Then one of us will get banned or the thread will be locked, or both. But let's not give them the satisfaction.

I really don't understand the forum rules. There's a thread up on X1 where a guy had a problem. He states that he found the problem and it had nothing to do with X1. Now he wants people to guess what the NON X1 problem was. A Cake staffer chimes in with a ridiculous response and comments how it's nice to see such a positive thread. My response to the thread was that if it was quiz or joke it should be down here. Mike, there's no way you would have been allowed to float that thread up in the thin air of the X1 realm. I'm starting to think Bub is right. It's all personal and the pro-cake vote carries far more weight than anything. Go check out that thread. It's essentially a smack down for anyone that ever experienced problems with X!.

Yeah, I'm bothered, not so much by the "God ..." comment, but the "I wish you would die in a fire" comment. I'm all for a good dig your heels in discussion and argument on semantics, and I can pretty much take anything ... but when you start wishing people would die and threaten them ... that's where I draw the line. That's just a sign of ignorance and imo you shouldn't be here at all if you have to drag a conversation down to that level when you've lost an argument. It's not nickelodeon, but the forums are here for discussion and there are rules that govern that discussion which are ignored for some members. Isn't pointing out that someone who starts a lot of threads to be antagonistic, being somewhat antagonistic?
