Izotope sales on Vocalsynth?
I have a project where I think this would be awesome, but it's a hefty price for a single project. Does Izotope ever put this on sale that you know of?

Been on sale a couple times in the last year, though sometimes bundled with something else. edit: For example PluginBoutique had 60% off VocalSynth + Nectar combo in January iZotope $50 off sale in Nov. iZotope $50 off sale in June.

they were giving away 2 copies, today was the last day to enter (long shot i know, but you never know) did you enter? and no longer taking entries . . . sorry it's quite a good plugin, wouldn't part with mine (or any other izotope plugs)

Hmm, you might want to resolve that issue before buying then. AFAIK the demo installer is the same as the actual, but with a time restriction. FYI it does seem to be a bit cpu hungry, so might require a workaround if your project is already pushing your available horsepower.

I definitely agree with Paulo's concern. You may have a bad download, but no idea. I would recommend installing both the VST2/VST3 versions and demoing both just to verify. Also, the timer on the 10-day trial would have started when the demo failed on you. If the demo continues to fail, I would contact iZotope, since that clock is still ticking. And if/when the demo works, and this is a one-off use, be sure to create a baked copy of that track for when the demo expires so you still have what you created.

I wanted Vocal Synth bad, but could never wrangle a deal on it. I have the Nectar Suite and other iZotope vsts, and when they were running bundle specials a while back, I didn't qualify so I emailed sales, and they offered me a 10% discount, but it was still over $100. Guess I'll do like usual and wait for a deal someday. Like NI's new acoustic guitar. I had their holiday coupon, but the time ran out the day before I tried to order it. dang. Another one to wait for...

Their first response was as though they ignored everything I submitted in the ticket. For example, I said I was on Windows 10 and they sent me back instructions on things to do in Mac OS. They told me to try an uninstall and a re-install, which I already told them I did. I let them know all of this, and haven't heard back from them since. I guess they are saving me money. :)

smallstonefan Thanks! I think I'm going to pursue some other options since I can't get the demo to work... :/
It happened to occur to me that maybe this is your first time setting up a vocoder type effect plugin with Sonar. I first ran into this issue when I installed Vocalizer Pro and also when I tried the demo of iZotope Stutter Edit. These are MIDI controlled AUDIO effects. There are lots of instructions for other DAWs, but one thing important to know is that these plugins are audio effects, not instruments. They must be inserted in the FX bin of the audio source that you intend to work with. Then if you wish to trigger them from a MIDI controller, or MIDi clips, you will need a separate MIDI track, and MIDI input must be enabled on the plugin. The basic steps to accomplish this are: 1. Create an audio track and a MIDI track. 2. Insert VocalSynth plug-in on the audio track. 3. In the MIDI track, set VocalSynth as the target. 4. In VocalSynth, enable MIDI input. After you get the basic setup established, a good way to test this is to put an audio clip on the audio track. Then play the audio. Try enabling and disabling the plugin FX as it plays. Some vocoder type plugins will not pass any audio until a MIDI note is played. If you don't hear anything, the plugin is probably inserted correctly. In this case, the track will be silent, until the plugin receives a MIDI note. Disabling the FX should allow you to hear the audio track normally. Once you have the MIDI setup correctly, everything should work fine.

I don't have VocalSynth either, but reading the specs online, it seems to be a multi featured tool, including vocoder, harmonizer, computer voice, and talkbox. https://www.izotope.com/en/products/create-and-design/vocalsynth.html I picked up the Vocalizer Pro because I just wanted the resynthesis engine for mangulating sounds, not an actual vocoder. I think it does that well, but have heard Vocalizer has disappointed a few folks looking for a pure vocoder. The Vocalizer was developed by the guy that co-developed Nemesyth GigaSampler, Jim Van Buskirk. SONiVOX hired him in 2010 to head a R&D team called Nemesynth, and he has several DSP patents to his name. http://www.kvraudio.com/news/sonivox_announces_nemesynth_music_technology_research_and_development_group_13450

I actually got Vocalizer (1) when it first came out (I liked the idea of just talking into it and playing a melody on the keyboard).....TBH, I haven't done much with that. I got V2 cos it was on a no brainer sale ($19.99).....still needs to be put to use though . Yeah, that Vocalsynth looks like a multi featured tool that I might eventually get (just need a good sale to hop on that). I do like Izotope roducts....they're top notch.

I have yet to run a mic thru Vocalizer, but have hooked up the output of a synth (like SynthMaster) to the input of Vocalizer to use it as an interesting effect. (Output the instrument track to a new patch point, then assign that patch point as input to an audio track with Vocalizer inserted). Also just dragging a wav file with a song or backing track, even a drum pattern, into an audio track to work with as source can make some unique sounds. Don't forget, each preset has 8 parameter snapshots to play with (the 8 blue buttons above the chord pads). Some cool variations are included.

If you were specifically seeking a vocoder, there was a fairly long thread a couple years ago with recommendations, a good handful were free (SONAR's own Pentagon is one often overlooked). There have also been a few other threads (link is to a google search). Just in case folks catch this and do not know... a vocoder requires a bit more setup than simply inserting as a VST, so can be frustrating without the RTFM part. I am sort of surprised by the lack of resolution myself TBH. Vocalsynth does require special routing (outlined above), and IIRC there is also an "inserting in SONAR" section in the users guide.
