Re: Just an Observation... 2013/10/01 19:40:02 (permalink)
been away for a week and spent the last hour or so catching up-a big week indeed.i always wonder what it would be like if we were in a real coffeehouse, all fired up on java and bellowing at each other-
a description of a  17th century coffeehouse:

"People engage in conversation, for it is there that news is communicated and where those interested in politics criticize the government in all freedom and without being fearful, since the government does not heed what the people say. Innocent games... resembling checkers, hopscotch, and chess, are played. In addition, mollas, dervishes, and poets take turns telling stories in verse or in prose. The narrations by the mollas and the dervishes are moral lessons, like our sermons, but it is not considered scandalous not to pay attention to them. No one is forced to give up his game or his conversation because of it. A molla will stand up in the middle, or at one end of the qahveh-khaneh, and begin to preach in a loud voice, or a dervish enters all of a sudden, and chastises the assembled on the vanity of the world and its material goods. It often happens that two or three people talk at the same time, one on one side, the other on the opposite, and sometimes one will be a preacher and the other a storyteller............
now if I can just work out whom is whom here?

I agree Straum...

Bub was a good guy....had no problems with him, and he was always cordial and
courteous, unless "driven" into the corner...

McQ ...you're right on the money...they thrive on it and can't live without it...

I like Bub too. He left because he was "cornered" and harassed by a couple of folks here but the last time I talked to him he was happy, though somewhere else. He was an asset and a good guy.

I'm going to keep this brief..

It seems to me that "most" here in this forum, usually the younger guys, but not exclusively,
have a problem with anyone expressing a "point of view" opposite to theirs, and simply
cannot remain objective, or be courteous about it....

We have to realize that "everyone" and "everything" is NOT the same...
that others are entitled to their opinions, every bit as much as you are entitled to yours..

Having said that....

I'm appalled and disheartened by the sincere lack of respect and derogatory comments
that keep popping up in the threads upstairs...and it really makes me want to leave this
forum...

Yesterday, Rain, who I deeply respect, was attacked for expressing the fact that he didn't
like the X Series interface...

Today someone posted info from other forums that talked negatively about X3,
but stated he was excited about X3, etc...and he got bashed for "sharing negative"
information....

The overall CHILDISHNESS of others in this forum is turning me AWAY from Sonar...
If members can't interact in a courteous manner, express thier views in a courteous way
and not be BERATED, then really I see no point in being here or using this software,
regardless of how GREAT it may be...

Professionalism is Professionalism....so be that...not a CHILD, and allow others to express their
opinions freely, just as YOU have the right to do...don't call them names or berate them...

fixed.

It's a generational thing. It's amusing to me that the OP can be labelling others childish too. Anyway, thanks for the interesting lecture on netiquette.

In short I don't think the people I am referring to are capable of inferring that I am referring to them.
...

I know you were not referring to me. So maybe that means you were referring to me. But that couldn't be the case, because if you were referring to me, I could not infer that. So I know you were not referring to me. But if you were not referring to me...

Yikes! I need to get out of this thread. I don't belong here.

Oh, and no offense meant. I am just having fun. :-)

I was beginning to think I was the only one that saw the hypocrisy dripping from every line;

I recall a few years back with the Clarissa thread I met Mike McCue for the first time. I made a similar post regarding courtesy and Mike educated me in my hypocritical ways.

So, I will be kind and tell ccLarry the message is a good one.

I was beginning to think I was the only one that saw the hypocrisy dripping from every line;

See, you see hypocrisy - and in turns I see one fine example of what I referred to as "procès d'intention".

In the thread which Larry mentions, I stated that I thought Sonar was ugly but that, all well considered, this was of no importance and quite irrelevant as it didn't affect the software's strengths.

In the context of a thread about aesthetics, it certainly was pertinent and needed no further motivation - this is a discussion forum, not a medical seminar where specialists are invited to exchange thoughts about life threatening issues, and I figured that whether it was positive or negative, opinions needed not be cautioned by 12 000 pages of psychological evaluation.

But someone put on their psychiatrist hat and their forum police pants and attempted to demonstrate to the jury that I was guilty of malicious posting, and that this was obvious in the lights of a previous incident where he and I had an argument. An argument which, once again, pretty much began as a procès d'intention.

I don't see why someone needs to have their motivations put into examination and to be personally attacked and called an hypocrite - and that's the thing, everything becomes a personal attack. Even when someone says they wish people showed curtesy and respect - it's almost as if he'd proclaimed he was the messiah or something we start looking for dirt and put him on trial for heresy...

Since it is obvious that it isn't easy to disagree w/ a request to be polite and civilized and that an attack on the actual message would be pointless, we turn to the messenger and rip him a new one, and accuse him of having bad intentions...

I'm sure Freud and Jung would have a wonderful time analyzing those wise forum self-proclaimed psychiatrists, and their motivations and whether or not they really believe that they can actually read through people better than themselves...

Man I'm glad the Coffeehouse isn't all that uptight...

well said.

Sounds almost identical to my stance in the infamous Clarissa thread.

In fact you stole my line: we attack the messenger. :)

I'm not sure I read the thread you are referring to but I have a hunch you gave back as giood as you got. :)

Probably the best thing to do is just to ignore people who irritate you and don't try and tell them how they should be posting. No need to make a big Arthur Miller play out of it. Anything particuarly egregious will be identified by Cakewalk and the guilty poster subjected to a thrashing with a wet plimsoll (to quote Morrissey).

PC is fine. Nothing plugged in. Audio/Video fine on any site other than YT. Every clip on YT has the muted icon, which does not respond to clicking.
