Ok, I went back and listened to the original 1st. I started listening to this one 1st. And stopped myself. "Please let the records reflect that I was the first to say the word "tabla!" " Ok, now that the credit for the tabla is out of the way, I was actually trying to say tablet? You need to write everything down on a tablet? And determine how to improve this? But the whole "tabla" thing seems to have been fortuitous? The 2/15 version is like a "million" times better... It breaths better, and is not focused so much on that hammer dulcimer as the 1st version was. Now it's more of "an element" as opposed to "an elephant..." I like the way the strings "sweeEELLL" on this too. Has a good soundtrack vibe to me. WHOA! 3:45/47? The swell "wasn't so swell..." got a little carried away IMO. Much better though, really.

Y'know, Robby, I'm kind of with you on this. I get the impression that you really don't care for the sound of the hammered dulcimer. That's ok. This song started out with that, but it does seem to work better as an element. If I take it out entirely, it leaves a huge void. Yet it doesn't need to be on the forefront. I think I have to do one more version to correct some mixing/panning issues, then I think I'm going to park this one. If nothing else, it's been a fun and different project to work on.

Hey Bob!! This version is very dynamic. I remember the first time around (which I thought was good), but this take has a lot more 'tension' & power to it. Has that movie score vibe fer sure!! What percussion samples are you using?
Slow Marching Band Win 7 x64, Sonar X1E x64, Studio One v2, Focusrite Saffire 24 DSP Pro, Genelec 8030a, True Systems P-Solo, Focusrite ISA One, FMR RNP, GAP-73. "Someone to watch over me".

Well, I can see you going through the Hindu Kush mountains in the pass, keyboard on a donkey cart and you jamming for all the herders. Be careful, though, not the safest place in the world! LOL. I told my wife to put on her veil and dance but she turned on American Idol. LOL Really a full sound, Robert, and it sets the stage in your mind for a trip through the mountains. That's what it's supposed to do, right? Success!!

Scotty, thanks for checking it out again. Glad you like it. Shawn, not sure what that means, but I'll take it as a good thing. Thanks. Larry, I'm pretty happy with what the shift to the string emphasis brought to this. The percussion samples are from Sample Tank. Tabla, and to a lesser degree, Boudran. I really like the way the samples are laid out, and they feel quite natural as you play them on the keyboard. Thanks for coming back. Warren, Yeah, you got the visual I was going for. Mission accomplished. Thank you.

Bring on the belly dancers !!! Seriously that's the first thing I thought when I heard it, lol. Not that it's a bad thing Mix sounded pretty good to me, very dymanmic especially with the swells as mentioned. Could totally see this on a movie or the next Prince of Persia video game. Or the next time I have belly dancers over of course.

I think a combination of the 2 versions would sound great: the original version (instruments are clearer) but with the intro of the new version. Sounds good!

T6, thanks. Yes, it is wide. I have a new version up, still wide, but I think it fills in better. Grant, Yeah, I'm having a blast with the ethnic instruments and the more conventional strings. Thanks for listening. Vicente, I have made some changes, hopefully for the better, and put some more emphasis on the cello's. Hope you like what I've done. Thanks for checking this out. Reece, new version today. What do you think? Amateur, I just posted a new version along that same train of thought. Thanks. Gist, thanks. Hope the new version works even better for you.

Listened to the new version and it sounds amazing. The mix is pristine and very pro-sounding to my ears. Love the arrangement, which is very atmospherc, conjuring up many visuals in the mind. I could imagine this being used as soundtrack music in an indian film. Good stuff Robert.

This is absolutely fantastic, Bob! Wow! Just when you think it can't get any bigger, it does. Then it does it again. I'm not even sure what instruments all of those are, but they're great choices. I love the cellos (?) swelling in and out too. Brilliant. I love it. What a great job and what a great picture it paints.

Hi Rob. This is great. I'm not sure if this type of music is your bag but the tune really does a good job of transporting you to another land. All the instrumentation supports the drama as opposed to just filling up space and fitting musically.

Janet, I though you might like this. For me, this is what MIDI is all about. Not quick and easy solutions to the everyday, but a license to explore new horizons. Much as you are doing with your own orchestral pieces. A few years ago, this sort of thing wasn't even a dream. yet it is now a real thing. Man, I love this stuff. Rhynosynth, you're right, this is way outside my norm ( if there is one). But I really enjoyed getting into this mindset. This is a fairly busy mix, and I'm glad the instrumentation worked for you. Thank you for the kind note.
