Kontact - Session Horns Pro

Hello. I'm experiencing some issues with this module in Sonar. On one project, the composed track would suddenly have some of the horns drop out and/or sound weird. Reloading the module would get it back to normal, but not too long on, the same issue would occur.

On another project, I froze the track and there were no sounds at all from the track...leaving it unfrozen, and reloading the project would have Sonar stop working within a minute. As a workaround, I had to split the instrument, take the audio file to another track and delete Kontact. No issues after that.

Anyone else having or have had issues with this particular module in Kontact with Sonar recently?

Thanks

Hi. Sorry if this is obvious. What is your "prepare using: .... ms buffer in MIDI, Playback and Recording settings in Preferences? Maybe try to adjust?
    All the best.

Can you please provide more information for us to try to help you figure out what is happening?

Your computer specs and such (look at my profile signature at the bottom of this post of mine, to get an idea of the info that folks find helpful)

Also, what about settings, like the 'Prepare Using' parameter - (Cakewalk folks set it to a new default of 250, down from its original 500 setting.  Sometimes, setting that back to 500/750/1000 solves some dropped notes issues. (worth a shot anyways).  Sorry I don't remember the full name of the parameter in preferences - I have been up all night recording, and I have to get 45 minutes of sleep prior to heading off to rehearsal for Mother's Day service at my church. (playing piano/keys for it).

    Driver Mode?

What sort of audio interface do you use?

Anything you can think of to supply us, will hopefully help your issues get resolved.

You may need to increase your sound interface's latency.  I remember having some issues with using Session Horns and trying to run a very low latency that sound a lot like what you are describing.  The problems went away if I increased the ASIO latency/buffer size.  You might also want to check your MIDI Playback "prepare using" buffer size, the default is way too small for pretty much everything.

Audio interface up full...ie, 2048 samples, buffer in midi: 128, prepare using: 1000

Hi Bob...my specs have been updated, but only for new speakers etc. Driver mode ASIO. Using RME UFX - in my specs - audio latency: MIDI - 2048, prepare using: 1000, buffer 128.

Maybe try to decrease the prepare using ...ms to 500, or 750? I have seen others have their issues disappear after adjusting this buffer. Hope you get it working.

I am scratching my head on this one, for the moment, but I will keep digging to see if I can help.

I have a quick question - in your initial post you mentioned a workaround involving you having to "split the track".  What did you mean by that - was it going to a Simple Instrument Track?

I myself almost never use Simple Instrument Tracks with Kontakt, because I normally have multiple instruments loaded into a single instance of Kontakt.  If indeed you are/were using Kontakt's Session Horns Pro and a Simple Instrument Track, I would like to know if you would still have this issue if you set the project to use a separate audio and a separate midi track instead.

Yes, running it as simple instrument...just midi. I did go through the process of having 1-16 outputs set up for Kontact, but I found that after putting several modules on there - in theory great - it was using to much of the first core of my CPU. Some forum members suggested just running individual instances of Kontact, which apparently puts less strain on that first core? Anyway, splitting the instrument gives me an audio to record the midi to. I then move that audio to an audio track and delete Session Pro Horns, thus freeing up resources. It's a workaround. NI have suggested uninstalling via Microsoft Fit It and then reinstalling, so I'm currently trying that. That's their best solution at the moment. If that fails, then in their communique, they state that I should contact Microsoft Support as the problem is probably rooted in Windows System - hope not as I don't like my chances of getting support from Microsoft based on past experience.

I'm not sure what you mean by "splitting the instrument" and "move that audio."
Have you tried bouncing the Kontact output to an audio track?  Or freezing the Kontakt (this will render as temporary audio and free up resources by not engaging the synth)?

If you right-click on the instrument's midi track, there's an option to split the instrument, which gives you the midi and an associated audio track. I can just record the midi then onto this. I can then take the recorded track into another audio track and delete the instrument.

Yes, normally I would just freeze the track, but on this occasion, the frozen track did not have any audio sound, which was weird...that's never happened before when freezing.

Anyway, NI suggested uninstalling and re-installing using Microsoft's 'fix it' tool, so I'll test it to see whether this has addressed the issue.
