I wish they would bring back the "i" button for release news in Native Access as it was there in Service Centre (plus the option to keep the downladed installer!) Service Centre lists a couple of crash fixes but I can't copy and paste here (not going to type it, sorry)

"Improved text legibility on many UI areas based on user feedback" Sounds good. Unfortunately, I am unable to install the update. When run from within Service Center, it yields an unhelpful "unknown error" dialog. However, when I run the setup manually, it fails with more - albeit equally unhelpful - information: ---------------------------Native Instruments Kontakt 5 Setup Error---------------------------Installation is not possible since the full version of Kontakt 5 is found on this computer. The latest version of Kontakt 5 can load all Kontakt Player libraries. You can update your existing Kontakt 5 full installation by running the latest Kontakt 5 update installer! Service Center identifies the file as "Kontakt 5.6.1 Update - Win", but the actual filename within the zip file is "Kontakt 5.5.6.1 Setup PC.exe". Note the discrepancy in the version numbers. I think NI is sending me the wrong update file. NI Support says: This means the full version of KONTAKT is already installed on your computer and that there is no need to install the free KONTAKT 5 PLAYER version. I am not installing the Player. I have never had the Player installed on this machine. This further supports my hypothesis that NI has accidentally linked to the wrong file.

They've uploaded a "full install" file rather than a "update" one. It's 511MB instead of approx 160MB like the 5.6.0 one. Here's the message I got Hopefully, they'll fix this soon ;-)

Larry, have you actually installed this yet? Or is your "doesn't fix the key colors" comment based only on the release notes? Yeh, John, I noticed the file size and thought half a gigabyte was a bit large for a minor dot-rev update, but just assumed there must have been some library files included. The file name explicitly says 5.5.6.1, but the internal version stamp says 5.6.1.48. The internal file description is "Kontakt 5 Setup" and was modified 9/29/16.

AHA! Therein lies the problem. I had run Service Center out of longtime habit, forgetting that it's been superseded by the new installer, which handled the update without issue. UPDATE: Mitch_I reports below that NI has fixed the file mix-up and it's now safe to use Service Center for this update.

Native access seems to be the way to go with the update. No issues at all, except it can't update replica. Kontakt was no problem and the file was around 150 meg.

My temporary setback trying to install this update gave me an opportunity to go back and capture a screenshot before the update, enabling a side-by-side comparison of visual elements before and after. The folder and file view windows' font is now slightly (perhaps 1pt) larger. That little increase makes filenames MUCH easier to read. To their credit, they somehow managed this without reducing the number of names visible in the window. This little change definitely makes the update worthwhile!

OT: Were any of you able to change the location where Native Access installs the vst's or did you just let it do it's thing and then add the new path to Sonar? I can change the vst locations in Native Access but all it does is deletes the old vst's at that location and does not install the new ones anywhere on the drive.

I long ago gave up the fight and no longer try to coerce installers into doing my bidding. It's the path of least resistance and the path to the least number of hassles. At one point my attempts at organizing plugins resulted in Kontakt DLLs in three separate locations on one computer, two locations for my Meldaproduction plugins and two locations for my iZotope stuff. I didn't know which versions were in what projects. That was my motivation for writing my little VST Inventory tool - just so I could figure out which DLLs were the "real" ones, which were old versions and - worse - new versions never implemented. So aside from sample libraries, where location is important, I just don't sweat it anymore. I let installers have their way with me and enjoy a less-complicated existence as a result.

Thank You bitflipper! That is the path (pun intended) I will pursue. BTW: It was your 'Inventory Tool' that helped me figure out, that my attempts at, changing the vst install location path was not working at ALL. I get more use from the 'Inventory Tool' than I do from a lot of the plugins I've purchased. I owe ya! Kind regards, Rick

Hi Larry, I tried that and I can change the paths, and did, but it just deletes the old vst and does not install the new vst. (also, for some reason my icon that looks like a human head has what appears to be a hole in it... :) )

I was hoping to download the installer - so I didn't use Native Access. I tried Native Access and it deleted my current version just like rtucker! I didn't see it installed anywhere else either - and I have a path set in my preferences. It's a piece of crap. Luckily, I went in to my download folder and copied a copy of the installer - before Native Access was finished with it (because it deletes it). I just installed it myself... what a nuisance...

I'm running Service Center version 2.6.0.137, and it downloads Kontakt 5.6.1 OK, but install fails: "Installation is not possible since the full version of Kontakt 5 is found on this computer. The latest version of Kontakt 5 can load all Kontakt player libraries. You can update your existing Kontakt 5 full installation by running the latest Kontakt 5 update installer!" I don't get it. I've been keeping it up to date. The latest was September 12, 2016. When I run Kontakt, the about box says Version 5.6.0 (R46).

I ran the latest update and I'm not a happy camper. First, my Kontakt GUI was changed, and there is no large font anymore...it is very hard to read, and the modules in the instrument rack are small. The window will not resize up anymore (will not get wide). THEN, my DLL files were not installed ANYWHERE on my computer! WTF? I had the old Kontakt.dll files on a storage drive and placed them in my Vstplugins folder, but apparently Sonar doesn't recognize them since the update. So I have emailed NI support and waiting on an answer. Tick tock, tick tock.....

Yeah - it seems like Native Access is installing with neither "AAX" or "VST" selected - how clever! I noticed this when I installed the update manually (after pinching the Native Access download file before it deleted it) These choices must be stored in the registry somewhere - but why you would automate an installation that doesn't select anything is beyond me.

This might not be relevant to some of the problems talked about here, but it's a follow-up to my post from yesterday about the install failure. Today I opened Service Center, and there was a new 5.6.1 update for Kontakt -- 160MB this time instead of 510MB yesterday. I clicked Download and then Install, and it installed successfully. Apparently NI had uploaded the wrong file and fixed it the next day.
