For those hoping that this means you can manage your libraries by grouping them into subdirectories, it doesn't do that.  All this change does is to rename the button.

I am having a "fiasco" as we speak - upgraded three products, Battery 4, Kontakt and Reaktor player - it upgraded the stand alone versions BUT deleted all the DLL's - contacted NI and they were not helpful, so am having to reload from ISO image i have just downloaded - then once reinstalled shall have to try update again - what a "fiasco" as you rightly say!!!

I'm having a similar problem. Since 5.6, Native Access has been updating my standalone Kontakt, but not the vstis.

That's what happened to me last time - my 64 bit dll files were gone.  You can check the NI installation log and it will probably show that the upgrade did not include your dll files.  In my case it installed the Pro Tools file (and I don't have Pro Tools).  I had to uninstall Kontakt and re-install it.   You can see why I was reluctant to upgrade this time...

Ok, figured it out. Even though for years NI seemed to know, for update purposes, the very standardized Windows location for my vsts, i.e C-Program Files-VstPlugins-, it has now, for some bizarre reason, decided that it should place these updates in their own so-called "default" location. Just weird. Pointed my DAW in the new direction, and all is now well....but I'm irked.

It seems that the last update (5.7) strongly bugs... with Sonar (Platinium on Win 7 64 bits, for me). All the dll disappear ...  I friendly suggest to the community to wait for some weeks before updating and inform NI to this main trouble !

Thank you LAG... First of all, I reloaded the last update and everything is ok now. I currently am on an urgent job and using Kontakt full time... I'll do the test one more time in few days  following your advise... I hope you'are right...  I hope receive an answer from NI too ! Have a nice day

I capitulated and let all my software decide where to install, and no install issues since.

I can't believe that Native Instruments keeps updating 5. It's been over 4 years since they have charged be for an upgrade.

6 has been in alpha or beta for a couple years now. It's vaguely mentioned by EvilDragon on other forums occasionally but he's not allowed to talk about it because of his NDA. Not sure what's taking so long and that's a bit of a worry. Especially since I don't believe they are rebuilding it from the ground up.

Being unable to back up installation files bothers me. Sure, it's usually not a problem except for the hassle and possible expense of re-downloading. But sometimes it is.
 
I found this out the hard way when I had to rebuild my DAW from scratch. Not every vendor was able to provide a new installation. At least one had the audacity to want to charge me for it. Some did not keep old versions online, forcing me to purchase the newest version. Many only provide a time-limited download link, and you have to write to them and beg for another. One of them claimed no record of my purchase (it was eventually sorted, though). Another vendor was no longer in business and their website shut down.
 
So yeh, I feel a lot better when I have backups - on DVD. Because the thieves had also stolen my backup drive, the only products that weren't a problem were the ones I'd backed up to DVDs and stashed in a shoebox. Old school's sometimes best.
