Laptop Question...Sorry, cannot find my old post about hard drive and where to put what

As stated, I apologize because I did ask this before but I cannot find my old post-sure it's me.
I have good powerful Asus laptop-I will play midi files, and projects with audio files and also edit both-have sound forge 11 pro also. I will not be recording on the laptop yet (still using my desktop for that)

Have a SSD 180GB drive for OS\apps and a 750gb SATAIII drive I added in place of the dvd player.
where best to install projects, audio, and samples (Kontakt 5, Scarbee basses and Steven Slate platinum drums 4, etc, etc.

Edit: Should I partition the 750gb drive? Laptop has 16gb ram also-this part was answered in an earlier post.

Thanks for any help
Frank

Thanks Scook. But it actually isn't the same post (which I didn't realize) and does not answer my questions in this posts. I think the questions above are from a post on the old cakewalk forum with Glennbo, Susan G, Dave M and folks like that-way back a while. Not run by Cakewalk but a great site

Maybe it's not a question I'll get answers to....oh well.

Thanks for reminding me about the format for searching a certain site or forum--that helps  in other ways an awful lot :-)

As far as where to put things, will all the samples fit on the SSD? If so, they will load faster from their but if the synths are not set to streaming, it will only affect how fast a project loads initially or how fast the synth will load a program. If the samples don't fit on the SSD, then there is no question where they should go.

I still have projects my project on an HD. Depending on your projects, it may not matter much where you put them. Projects can be stored and read from anywhere SONAR can reach, all you are setting up in SONAR preferences is the default location for the File Open dialog. Using the per-project audio folder layout it is very easy to move a project around. I would recommend experimenting with some of you existing projects to determine if you want to use the SSD for active projects. You could have projects on both drives.

OK-that's a good idea. I just need to see if loading a project with keys, bass and drum samples in it and my guitar and vocal audio files bogs done when editing etc.  I am probably worry for nothing because my projects are normally small compared to most here. Bass, drums, keys and my guitars and vocals. I just want to be able to play them back do some mixing and editing with them.

Then they become full audio when I'm done. I always save the project with the vst's etc no matter what I do.
BTW, for the laptop I use the roland Octacapture.

    Thanks Scook
