Anderton I'm not sure the comparison of someone who has owned Studio and presumably used it is a valid comparison to a new customer. I think it would be relevant to place some kind of value on the ability to use SONAR for however long someone used it prior to upgrading.
That's a good, valid point. Previous owners do get an extra year of use, at the very least, and that should count for something.

Susan, you're 100% right. I stand corrected on the $610 statement.

Wow. That was a lot off topic. I Upgraded from X3 Producer to platinum. I Pretty much upgrade every year. I Guess I'm now a Sonar member. Groovy.
Back to the Bendeth compressor.... I own (and am wrestling with) U-He's Presswerk, and if anyone out there is fortunate to own both the Bendeth and the U-he, how do they compare? Is the Bendeth more of an emulation?

I have both. I've definitely been using +10 more as it has a distinct sound/vibe and just enough controls to be flexible, but few enough to work quickly. Between that, all of the latest UAD-2 and Slate compressors, Acustica Titanium and Aquamarine... We've got a rainbow of wonderful colors to work with (In the box is getting so good) and the +10 fits right in with the latest and greatest high quality analog modeled plugins in my opinion. The U-he is unique and interesting because of how flexible it is. I'm not sure it sounds as good as the above listed, but it's really close! What it does offer is vibe with an incredible amount of flexibility. Certain sounds I might just want or need a certain amount of control over transients, attack/release or distortion amount. U-he Presswerk is good in those situations. I especially love it on Electric Bass. +10 sounds great where one might use a DBX160 on individual drums or Electric Bass Gtr, or an 1176 or Distressor on Vocal. It has it's own unique vibe, but it has enough flexibility in speed to be useful in a variety of situations. It could even be used for buss work. The EQ part of +10 is also really good. I wasn't expecting much but it has quickly become one of my favorite color EQs in the box. For anyone that didn't know the original... the outer two bands have a more narrow Q than the inner two bands, which have a wider EQ. They overlap and can be used creatively and add a nice little texture that reminds me of an actual analog EQ. These are just my thoughts... carry on!

Thank you, theheliosequence, for your concise and informative answer. I agree the U-he is handy, but there is something about it that I just can't love it yet. It's very transparent, though, which I do like. I'm sure they will jazz things up in future updates.
Sounds like the Bendeth is worth a good look. I will download the demo and use it in the applications you describe. And yes, in the box is getting very interesting these days...!

I just received an email from Boz Digital Labs saying they are now releasing the +10db PC format but that there is also a Bug Fix in the new release package. I purchased mine from the Cakewalk Store vs. Boz so will I be seeing an update that has the bug fix? Currently the only thing in my cakewalk account is the original purchase back on 2/4/15.

The bug release is from v1.01 to the current which is the ProChannel release version. He was just a little slow in sending out the email. I purchased the original back in November and double-checked.

You should already have v1.04 which is the latest version. The newsletter mentions bug fixes so that owners of 10+ don't take this strictly as an announcement about the addition of ProChannel modules.

The part I found interesting in the newsletter was More ProChannel Modules to Come...
While +10db is our only plugin that is ported over to ProChannel format, we do have some more coming soon, so keep your eyes peeled. Actually, just to give a little hint, Bark of Dog and Panipulator are just about finished, and will be released for free!
Could this mean a PC Module version of the Imperial Delay?

If we are indeed going to get more ProChannel plugins can we have some sort of a plugin manager for it. A single vertical menu is now becoming a bit ungainly.

Ignoring the four people who have "complained" (one of them, only about the price), most of the informed posts have been positive.. I have not posted more about it, as I have been so busy recently, that I could not give it the time it deserved. The short answer is - Yes, it is worth it. It gives you something that we do not already have. It sounds fantastic. I would like to spend some more time with it, so that I can give a more in depth appraisal, but I would highly recommend it already. Used on a drum bus, in one project, it has produced magnificent results - the EQ and Compressor combined - bringing out the "room" sound, adding "crack" to the snare, doing a little "Pultec-thing" to the bass drum. I used the compressor on a "synth" bass track (using Craig A's excellent Gibson EBS DimPro Expansion), but since replaced it with a "real" bass track. It made the DimPro track sound great. I have not had the chance to try it on a vocal yet, but will post back when I do. This is a fantastic plugin, that adds to the already great plugins available in the PC/Sonar. It is a great Compressor, that offers something quite different to other PC compressors, all of which I use (PC76, Ca2a, 4K bus, 4K channel, Softube FET, VKFX Compressor). The EQ is also "unique" - in the correct sense of unique. Added to that is the Expander/Gate. Altogether, it is a brilliant plugin, with the added PC modules, at a very reasonable/cheap price.

I had some reservations earlier about having the need for another compressor/eq but after trialling it, I was impressed enough to buy it, despite having what I think are some pretty strong competitors.

Sometimes you buy a plugin for transparency... sometimes you buy for color. This is one that you buy for color... and a nice color it is. My favorite use is on my bass tracks combined with Boz's free Bark of Dog plugin. Never, with such ease, have I been able to consistently sit a bass perfectly within a mix yet at the same time have it pop with such clarity. I also love what it does with acoustic guitars. It's not something I would put on every track. I think of it this way. Those classic recordings I love were mostly analog, and a studio may only have 1 Vocal Stresser (the hardware this plugin is modeled after). They also only had 1 or 2 LA-2A's, or 1176's as well. The console strips would do the majority of the work, and these special devices would be used to make a single part "stand out" in a really good way. If you put this stuff on everything, then nothing will stand out... Just my 2 cents...

So, I downloaded the demo and am trying it out. So far, I'm pretty impressed. Am I $100 worth of impressed for adding yet another comp and EQ? Ehhhhhhh..... If it were just a stand alone VST, probably not. But, since it includes a Pro Channel version, yes, I think I'll be buying it. Other than the CA2A (Which is awesome!), I'm just not overwhelmed with the other Pro Channel compressors. So to be able to have another good compressor and another/different EQ in my Pro Channel.... Yeah!
