Call me a remix bigot, but I like the last version better, with the picked acoustic being prominent, and that melancholy synth coming in later.

I listened again, "to both." I believe that picked acoustic "sets the stage" for the production? And it seems lost in the remix... I know it's still there? But there is an emotional pallet being dipped in to with that guitar at the beginning of the last/first mix posted on this thread. Trust me, I am a person who listens to music and cries... Usually? It's because one of my mixes just sucks no matter what I do. But your stuff is "consistently" good. You've even made my stuff good? So I know "for a fact" that YOU are one of the men? So while I can't speak as a mix master, or a production master? I speak as a person "who feels music..." And believe me on that one, "I feel the music." (trust me, I actually kiestered a CD for a friend in prison? (to get it to him on a visit.) And coincidentally? It was "I got the music in me..." (AMAZING COINCIDENCE!)

The 1st version, the intro? It's better...

Robbay.. Thanks. But, you lost me. LOL... So, you like the first mix better? Is that correct?
Cause you latched on to what I was trying to achieve as the 1st version intro seemed like too much as it overshadowed the acoustic coming in.

I think I should re-order the links in the OP as the first link is the 2nd mix and the 2nd link is the first mix.
woops.
edit: changed

And yes, I try to mix for human beings not producers... LOL (again).
Sorry for being dense.

Hi Tim,

Fantastic tune and mix, man. Both versions are great but, if I had to choose, I love the acoustic tone on the 2nd one...but I prefer the intro in the 1st version. Which isn't really making a choice, is it?

Well, either way, you are really a master and this is just great.

Yes sir, I thought the 1st one was better. I really like the acoustic guitar in the 1st one better. But "it subjective" ya know? JMO

So if people express no opinion? Disregard.

If people express an opinion for mix2? Maybe weigh it against the #1 product and split the difference? I don't know how you do what you do, really; it's a black art...

Hey, Tim,

I'm with Gary and Frank, both versions are absolutely fantastic!

But, if I had to pick, I'd go with Mix #2.  Personally, I like the intro on the second mix better, and think the overall mix sounds warmer and "richer" sounding.

Either way, beautiful song and great production work.  Nice one, buddy!

You really got a great voice... and a damn good ear.

On my headphones the background seems to compete with the vocals volume-wise.

A really great tune.  My kind of chord progression.   I like the arrangement too.  Very sentimental, it's got a lot going for it.  Good job.
  I'm referring to  mix #2.

Hi Tim, sorry I'm late to the party here. This is great in my opinion. A little bottom heavy for me personally, but nothing that made me feel it was too much.

The second mix is more to my liking, but I'd suggest a little low passing on the flute or whatever that is that replaced the other sound you were using in mix 1. There's a little bit of sizzle in the sound which I didn;t feel should be there..but again, nothing bad at all.

Vocals are huge and so are the guitars. Maybe a bit too huge? The bottom end curbing via mastering would probably handle it and bring things back into perspective. But again I stress, none of it is bad...just a personal observation on my behalf. I love the intimacy you captured on this track with the guitars and the voice....as well as the arrangment and performance. Excellent job man!

Tim this is so nice, so mellow and so beautiful that I need to take a second listen to just try to reach something I wish I had the musical terminology and capacity to ask you about.  By the way, I heard this rainstick that Beagle was referring to I think just around the 2:00 mark or immediately after; I agree with his comment, I don't think it adds.
You have such a sound here in this blending of an awesome unique vocal, and a pristine recorded set of guitars, it starts off kinda slow while we get the pace and the feel... so mellow.. with such a nice lyric....  grabs ya and pulls ya in before ya know what happened.
There's that nice piano blend with both electric and acoustic guitar... strings so soft that they aren't noticeably there but they are...I wanted to say this was the sound I always wished I could achieve but hadn't stumbled onto it yet.   Danny said it best I guess, about the bottom end and the intimacy you've achieved here.  This is one truly outstanding, awesome piece of work.  I will be keeping an ear out for more of this, Tim  thanks and please keep doing what you're obviously doing so well.

Not my cup this round.  Perhaps I'm a poor judge ... I listened to both versions half way ... did not get hooked on any elements in either.  This is a regression, IMHO.

Unfortunately, I've always had trouble wrapping my head around country and CCM ... despite my own compositions in these genres.  Rarely do these genres fail to make me puke.

Fortunately, everyone else loves your tune!

Besides that I ponder here:  What grabs me? ... or why am I not 'listening' correctly?  Why do words go in one ear and out the other? Is an emotional tween gonna get hooked, I dunno?  Why am I the only one with a poor attention span here?  Etc.

Tentative solutions: A STRONGER vox vibe, a swifter tempo, a hook, much less intro, more rhymes, less run-on sentences, easy-to-understand words, more beatz etc.   Else, I await your next excellent offering.
JMO/IMHO.

Hi Bob O, Thanks man. Glad you picked mix2:) But, man does soundclick screw up the fidelity. Thanks Bob. Dig your new tune.

Hey Daryl, Thanks a lot for the kind words. Yea, I always have a tough time sitting the vocal just right. I tend to lower it a little so the listener will turn it up:)
Glad you like the chords too.

Thanks Mr. Clean. Appreciate it.

Robbay...... Mix 2 baby, Mix 2.....

Hi Danny, Thanks for droppin by and the great comments.
Yea, ya know, I brought up the MP3 next to the wav, and I don't know what I did. Sounds real muddy.

I've got so many friggin mixes though and actually, I'm not sure which wav I actually used:) I need a better system of filing.
This was like "Long way 7c cut intro 9_25_12_WL_eq. cwp" And that only tells me not as much as I'd like.

Maybe I'll revisit and lower the guits and vocs and re-master. Thanks.

Hey John. Wow man. glad you liked it so much. cool. If you think of what you wanted to ask, let me know. Thanks John.

Hey John. Wow man. glad you liked it so much. cool. If you think of what you wanted to ask, let me know. Thanks John.

Tim,  I was trying to figure out musically how to ask the "how did ya get..."  that kinda blend that is at times just flooding my ears with mellow.   Can't even distinguish all that I hear -  strings, guitar(s), bass, piano but not so individually distinct; it's like the blend you got, created some whole new instrument/sound.  As it should be, if we reach a certain height that you have in this.   (by the way I'm listening to ver 2).   Can you list what guitars/guitar synths you used on this?  I believe there are several.  And any special notes you care to share on how you mixed this?   Really, really nice work man, totally love it.

Thanks John. Wow. Ok, let's see.
Guitars were a Martin D28 miced with an AKG 441 condensor I think.
The electric is a Heritage 550 going direct.
I don't have a guitar synth. I'd sure like to check one out though.

Synths were Omnisphere pads and dittles, Trillian bass , Roland JV-1080 strings, Kontact (piano).
I think there's some loops in there maybe. There's actually 2 kiks. Which is kind of odd considering you can't really hear them...

I don't really know what to tell you John. The song started as a guitar/voc (to a clik_ and then I added stuff:)
The vocals were pitch corrected with Melodyne (of course:) (don't tell anyone).

I think i started this over a year ago and have worked on it since on and off.
I have about 5 different intros and settled on the latest mix 2.

It didn't really turn out how I had envisioned it, but, I just let it go where it wanted to go.
I'm glad you like it.

I don't know if these pics would help. But, here's what the project looks like in 8.53. If you have any questions from what you see, let me know.
