Looking for an updated DELAY plug-in to use within Sonar
Greetings, I am looking for recommendations for an updated (VST-3?) delay plug-in, to use mostly with vocals. Stereo/ping options are great; must have tempo delay function Basically, something like the old Cakewalk "Tempo Delay" but perhaps with an updated engine, etc. Suggestions?

What about the BT Delay in Sonar? The Waves H-Delay may be on sale right now. It's worthy.

I use the delay in the VX-64 Vocal Strip because of how you can manipulate the filtering for the feedback, and combine delay with the stereo doubling option.

i know you said you want VST 3 but why not use the sonitus delay ? I know its DX and old but it still does the job and kicks asphalt. I have Waves Manny delay but I still use the sonitus loyally on vocal tracks. running a pretty professional set up here and im not ashamed to admit it, that sonitus delay just works. it reminds me of this old 1980's Digitech RDS 1900 I used to have. (still do) it wasn't quality but it was versatile and as far as tools go (every plug in is a tool) I could do anything with it. stereo delay, ping pong, chorus, flange.

Slightly O/T, but the doubler in VX-64 is my go-to and has been for years. Better than the Waves version even.

Hi. I am another user of the VX-64. Has been my go to delay for years. I also like both the Sonitus and NI Replika. I have not used the BT much yet, but it seems nice the little I have played with it. All the best

By my count there are at least 7 FX plug-ins with tempo based delay bundled with Platinum. One was added this year. There are quite a few others which meet the criteria set so far. I know to rule out iLok protection. Anything else?

I also like Sonitus and the BT Oilcan Echo (which is a little more "niche" and less generic). The main thing I don't like about Sonitus is that if you want to automate it, you have to use two curves (for the left and right side) even if you've linked both sides with the button in the plug. Since I've gotten H-Delay from Waves it's been my go-to, if you can get it for cheap I would say it's worth it. Easy to use and sounds great.
I also have FabFilter Timeless 2 which is probably the most full featured of them all but it's kind of complicated as a result. I end up not using it as much unless I need something very freaky.

Unfortunately the BT Oilcan is not a tempo delay. Echoes by the same manufacturer, Nomad, includes the Oilcan algorithms along with several other vintage delay types and has tempo sync. I like FabFilter 2 as well, I like it better on sale. For less than 1/2 the money, TkDelay offers a lot. Both have demos and user friendly copy protection. TkDelay being an example of the best copy protection possible.

Izotope's new Dynamic DDLY is quite good, as is the Overloud VKFX Delay, which works well within Sonar's Pro Channel.

BozDigital Imperial Delay. Waves Abbey Road J37 (tape machine emulator, but also does a good tape delay effect). D16 Sigmund. Echoboy. Audio Damage Dubstation.
And many more.
But they're not necessarily "better" than what comes with Sonar, just different.

Look at the Imperial Delay from Boz. Kinda expensive, but the ducking feature alone is super useful on Vox. H-delay for simpler quick and dirty tasks. PSP 608 is also worth a look...it's probably the deepest of the three, but the interface is not for the faint of heart. Dean

Echoes is not bundled with SONAR. It is not part of the BT line. As mentioned above the BT Tempo Delay is bundled with SONAR.

I meant the Oilcan, but yes that was ambiguously worded. As you said, it isn't tempo based, but it sounds very good and comes with Sonar. If you can do division tempo based is less of an issue, too.

Just to follow up: I went with the FabFilter Timeless 2 - I am already a FabFilter customer, so the price was very reasonable. Lots of features - but a bit complicated. Nice sounding . . .

BT Tempo Delay gets a lot of love from me. I think it sounds great, and has just about all the parameters I need. To me much more organic sounding than the Sonitus.

The OP mentioned vocals...doesn't anyone else use the VX-64? The delay filter curve shown in the screenshot (post #13) is good for vocals - increases intelligibility but doesn't step on other instruments, especially as you turn up the feedback.
