Lyrics entry - starts adding notes?? Why oh why??
I am entering lyrics in the staff view; it goes fine for a while, and then Sonar starts adding notes as I type a word and then hit spacebar - why is it doing this??

Same problem here. I cannot figure it out. It happens with tab key sometimes too. Usually it adds a note at or near the same pitch, that has almost no length associated with it in PRV. But sometimes it also adds multiple rests coming after. The original notes are all left intact.
I can't figure it out either...

I've experienced this problem too. It's very frustrating. Undo won't work and I've ruined hours of work by inadvertently saving before noticing that the project has been corrupted. I suspect, but have not confirmed, that the notes added are notes that were previously copied and pasted somewhere within the project.
I've reported this to cakewalk support and they have reproduced the problem and said they'd look into it. It's been 25 days, and I haven't heard from them.
Best I can suggest is to keep a notepad file of your lyrics. Make changes in there. Then remove all the lyrics and paste all the corrected lyrics in one shot. This helps, but not in all cases.

Sell by date at 9000 posts. Do not feed. @48/24 & 128 buffers latency is 367 with offset of 38. Today I got a new wrinkle - not only did I get unwanted notes, I got my lyrics doubled. They turned into something like, " I I love love you you ..."
I submitted a problem report since I haven't heard from them after a phone call a month and a half ago. I sure would like to see this fixed - it drives me nuts!

Can this issue be confirmed on X3D (latest version) with brand new projects (under X3D), in case this has already been fixed in the latest version, seems to be an issue with X3C looking at what Morgan says.

I've run into this issue. The research I've found leads me to believe that there is somewhat of differing standards concerning lyrics. There's the simple text meta code, there's the lyric code, and some variants of text for differing purposes. Some of these you won't even see in Sonar because Sonar's default behavior is to hide all midi events that occur before 1:01:00.
I'll take a guess and suppose it's Yamah's XF standard they're following, requiring a note with the lyric - but don't quote me on it - I'm just guessing.
Some midi player's just don't care, and will play lyrics whether they're text codes, lyric codes, with a note or not, and will even play .kar files. As I said, I haven't pieced it all together yet. I'm sure this behavior has been around for quite some time - it would take a long-time baker to answer the reasoning behind it.
