NI re Kontact say: This is a known issue listed in our system [KT5-2225]

Wizard 71: Thanks I've tried the WDM/KS drivers but they distort the sounds. Perhaps I needed to play around with them further. Do you have to change buffer size etc to accommodate them? Also, does the Roland software work with these drivers?

CakeAlexS, thanks but I've recently done this. I could do it again I suppose. System update is current as well.

Make sure you do the uninstall then reboot... Whilst you are at it get rid of anything you don't really need.
Cheers...

I just started having this problem.  I get it upon the first launch of Platinum after turning on the computer.  After that, I close the program, restart it and no issues whatsoever.  Still annoying and looking forward to a fix!

Good luck to the OP!

@dap9 it doesn't seem to be exactly the same symptoms so I doubt it's the same cause. I would start a new thread giving as much information as possible stating your full system specs..

Cheers..

Well I'm back to X3e, so Platinum has been a bit of waste of money for me. It's too unstable with Kontact 5 and Melodyne issues, blue screen installation/update issues, and other 'unknown stop working issues'...maybe that's not Plt in itself, but I need a reliable DAW and at least I'm able to work consistently with X3.

Did you do #21?
Now you are mentioning all the other issues.

1) Backup
2) Remove/reboot/reinstall drivers
3) Run windows update several times inc optional updates
4) Run NI support centre and other updates.
5) Pay a visit to Intel driver update: http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/detect
6) Have a look at updating your display drivers...

If it's really getting bad after that maybe it's time to do a wipe and reinstall of Windows.

Further issues, you might want to post a separate thread for each one otherwise things could get confusing...

Thanks..

Hi Alex...yes I did the uninstall and reboot driver thing. I have needed to use Melodyne on one of my recent projects and after the last crash - submitted and confirmed with Noel sending it to Celemony - I only use X3 as it's reliable.
1 - 3, all up to date.
4 - Awaiting NI to provide a fix for Kontact 5 Issue.
5. Intel identified an updated driver but it failed to install.
6. Display drivers current.

Re-installing Windows and the myriad of drivers, software updates/install is a nightmare and too time-consuming to risk coming out the other side with possibly the same issues occurring. I'd rather just use X3 and wait for some updates for Plt to see whether it improves...after all, by the time X3e came around, things continued to generally improve overall.

I'd also rather wait until I'm in a position to build a new system with perhaps Win 10.

Thanks for your suggestions.

It looks system specific to me. I'm not sure if Platinum updates will help... They might but unlikely in my book.
If Intel update identifies the driver you should be able to download it manually somewhere. If you are still having issues installing it I suspect it's again a system specific issue.

I hope you are running a virus scanner.

Cheers...

I have had a serious issue with rda1110.dll which is the octa capture asio driver and kontakt 5. Cake support declared it to be rolands problem but after extensively trying to get them (roland) to do something about it I gave up. More than a couple of instances open running LA scoring strings and the project wont even load, instant crash. I found a way round it by freezing the instances of Kontakt and saving every time i was finished for the day, and unfreezing them after I had loaded the project the next time. Major PITA!
I ended up changing to the WDM/KS drivers and haven't looked back since.

I think all of us with Roland interfaces (especially Octa-Capture) need to bug Native Instruments and report all of these problems!!!

NI needs to fix Kontakt 5 behaviour when running with an Octa-Capture ... throughout X2/X3 and now Platinum virtually every of the few crashes I had could be traced (after long time research) to only happen when both Kontakt 5 and Octa-Capture are involved  (believe me I have tried all updates, firmware updates and what else is there) ...

So in the past 2 years I had to use the same practise i.e. "freezing the instances of Kontakt and saving every time i was finished for the day, and unfreezing them after I had loaded the project the next time. Major PITA!" However, this was the only thing that ensured trouble free working (and having auto-save enabled whenever working with non-frozen K5 tracks) ...

Now with Sonar Platinum I quickly ran into the same troublesome situation (see http://forum.cakewalk.com/FindPost/3169497) and blamed Platinum to be unstable until Noel helpfully pointed out that it's once more the Octa-Capture driver that crashes after K5 did someting nasty ...

Did you get this fix and did it fix your Kontact/Octa issues?

I too find a pretty stable system both with X3 and Plt when I don't use Kontact - or specific modules in Kontact such as Alicia's Keys and Session Horns - although Melodyne brought down Plt once and Noel identified it and sent crash report to Celemony...doesn't happen in X3.

It appears - as I mentioned - that it's the virus program bitdefender - that interferes with the installing/update of Plt, even though white-listed - although come to think of it, I didn't white-list the Command Center.

With Melodyne however, it works quite well in X3 but brought down Plt. So I'm not sure how 'system-specific' that is?
