In the case of melodyne, disable your virus scanner I suggest. Check your buffers. Maybe you should be running latencymon as well and check for issues..

Cheers..

So in the past 2 years I had to use the same practise i.e. "freezing the instances of Kontakt and saving every time i was finished for the day, and unfreezing them after I had loaded the project the next time. Major PITA!" However, this was the only thing that ensured trouble free working (and having auto-save enabled whenever working with non-frozen K5 tracks) ...

Now with Sonar Platinum I quickly ran into the same troublesome situation (see http://forum.cakewalk.com/FindPost/3169497) and blamed Platinum to be unstable until Noel helpfully pointed out that it's once more the Octa-Capture driver that crashes after K5 did someting nasty ...

Did you get this fix and did it fix your Kontact/Octa issues?

I too find a pretty stable system both with X3 and Plt when I don't use Kontact - or specific modules in Kontact such as Alicia's Keys and Session Horns - although Melodyne brought down Plt once and Noel identified it and sent crash report to Celemony...doesn't happen in X3.

I've got the K5 fix installed but still got the Kontakt/Octa issue under investigation (i.e. haven't used K5 enough to say for sure that it's better ... lately I was working mainly with audio projects, K5 didn't get much use) ...

Anyway, that problem with Platinum I mentioned above happened with the K5 "fix" in place ... so either not fully fixed or another K5 issue ...

When doing installs I have had to turn virus protection off in the past when no internet connection was required. This is of course after turning my router off. You may want to try that for the install only.

IIRC X3 required me to go about it this way.

I'm getting this same issue now every time I close a project.  Even if I try to keep Sonar open by only X-ing out the project and not the program itself, it crashes.  Then it sits in the taskbar so I can't open it back up.  I have to restart every time I want to work on a new song.

I don't use BitDefender or Kontakt.

Yargh.

Read my thread...
http://forum.cakewalk.com/Windows-10-5th-Make-that-6th-attempt-m3384841.aspx
I'm still not sure what is causing it, but I know I'm not going to worry about it anymore. Sonar works in Win 7. I'll stick with Win 7.
Mixbus 3.2, and Tracktion 7 both worked in Win 10.

Just an update from the initial post. Ever since I bought my RME UFX, I have had a mostly stable Sonar. Apart from some release updates last year that caused some soft synth timing issues and occasional 'stop working' due to opening an existing project - this hasn't happened for a while now - it's pretty good. Ever on the odd occasion with a crash due to some plug-in spitting the dummy, Plt unloads from the system almost instantly - v's hanging there for 5 odd minutes...thanks Roland Quad. I now use the latter for system sounds only.

Love my RME! Worth the expense.

  1. Start your own thread
  2. List your entire system spec, including interface & driver
  3. Detail EXACTLY what you're doing, project wise
  4. Don't type in capitals
