My picture cache folder becomes "corrupt and unreadable" causing fatal exception errors and blue screen. Problem fixes when disk check does a scan and sorts out orphaned files from the picture cache folder then all is good until it happens again an hour or so later.

Not a clue, but a few suggestions...
 
1.) Check your Windows logs for any error messages -- particularly disk errors
 
2.) Try disabling virtual memory (swap file) temporarily. If you have a decent amount of RAM, this shouldn't be a problem.
 
EDIT 3.) Your hard drive manufacturer should have a downloadable utility on its website that checks the health of your drive. I would run that too.

Pic Cache has been unstable at times, especially in the past. Many years ago, I went ahead and created a macro file to delete all the files in the pic cache every night. With fast computers like we have today it's not important or even much if any a time saver to save the pic cache. So don't' be afraid to delete all the files in it, I do it every night.

Yes. Just delete all the files. Sonar writes what files it needs there when a project is open. They can be deleted the moment Sonar is closed. No need to save them at all.

Thanks for the tips. Its a fresh OS install and new SSD...was happening on previous intall as well. Ive tried all suggestions except deleting cache after every use...been a long time user and never encountered this problem before. Does it require a fix in the next update maybe?

As a troubleshooting step and potential workaround, you could map your picture cache to another drive like a USB drive, SD card, network drive, or if you want to get geeky, a ramdisk.

I use Macro Express. I use the Pro version whish is about $30. Yet it could be the free version will do that. Also in the thread I saw something else that deletes them that I'm pretty sure is free.
 
If you get Macro Express I'll be happy to give you the simple macro task file that takes care of it. I'm really surprised that Sonar doesn't have this feature built in. Although I'm pretty sure there is a setting in the INI file that you can specify the size of the pic cache and that will certainly help some to delete the older ones above that limit.
 
Even this year V-Vocal was crashing on a project and deleting it's pic cache fixed it. Also if you ever open Sonar and you see a bunch of blank waveforms. Sometimes it's quicker to close Sonar and delete the pic cache and reopen it and it'll redraw the waveforms. Or you can select all the waveforms and redraw them.
