  • Copy and paste bus envelopes. STILL NOT WORKING?!?!?

Hi there.

I'm seriously baffled over the fact that it seems I'm totally unable to copy and paste audio BUS envelopes (no, I'm not talking about _track_ envelopes but bus envelopes). I have every SONAR Producer version since 8.5.3 installed on my computer (X1, X2, X3 and Platinum) and while googling this issue, it seems that this feature is still not working correctly and has been somewhat screwed up ever since SONAR 7. Seriously, WTF?

Whether I try to open my project with SONAR 8.5.3 Producer or the very latest build of SONAR Platinum, I can't copy and paste multiple bus track envelopes. It all works OK with normal tracks, but as I'm mixing through buses, it means that if I add a new multi-track portion in the middle of my project, I'd have to manually draw all the bus envelopes (note: not the trackenvelopes), and do so one by one, since SONAR doesn't copy&paste multiple bus track automations and even when I try to paste bus tracks one by one, it's just a rotten mess that doesn't work. Geez!

I've been a SONAR user since SONAR v8 and this is just ridiculous. You've had this issue practically for way over 10 years and nothing has been done to fix it. Maybe the developers ought to focus on the functionality of the program itself rather than adding more gimmicks on the surface + polishing them just to make things look good until you take look under the hood?!?! Bloating the software to the point that the only "update" seems to be in hogging resources is just nonsense! Sorry for the rant, but this is my honest opinion.

Please fix this issue before you add any other fancy new gimmick as a "new feature". Thank you.

Why do you need to copy and paste buss envelopes? I'm curious. I know members have mentioned this problem but I can not see a reason to do so.

In the mean time ... Aux Tracks may support this.  I haven't tried the envelope copy/paste, but I have used them as buses.  Maybe that will help ease the pain.

Because I'm doing my my mixing through buses simply since it's much simpler that way, especially when you're working with a huge amount of tracks and want to group multi-track recorded instruments and/or instrument groups into their own submix buses, sidefills and so forth. For many, that's a standard work method in a multitrack audio project.

I ran into this problem when I needed to copy and paste one segment at a certain point of the project so that it'd get duplicated (meaning: the same copy-pasted segment doubled in the project timeline, along with all the audio and the automation envelopes, including bus automation envelopes). I thought it'd be ahem, -- a cakewalk -- but apparently that was not the case. Not even with SONAR Platinum. Glad I've been dumping my money into this all these years! :)

I think this was fixed quite a while ago. I just tried it, and had no problems copy-pasting Volume automation from one bus to another and/or from one time to another.

Try using Copy Special and Paste Special (Ctrl+Alt+C, V) and make sure you have Track/Bus Automation checked.

Yes, confirmed that it definitely works here.

Same here.

It's not working properly. For instance: whereas with regular tracks, you cannot copy and paste multiple bus tracks at once, which is a problem that's been around since 8.5.3 Producer Edition. So, in order to copy and paste all the bus envelopes you have to do it one bus track at a time which is obviously a pure grind. (And even the "bus track-by-bus track"-copy&paste grind doesn't slide the envelopes correctly! Tried in the latest SONAR Platinum as well ..)

Neither can you select BOTH tracks and buses at once just to cut out or replace a section of the song so that the automation envelopes would stay intact. This meaning: BOTH the audio tracks and the buses and everything they contain.

Either what I'm saying above is true or I'm doing something wrong. If I'm doing something wrong, please feel free to guide me. I'd be glad to get all the help I can get.

I have a Win7 64-bit workstation with all SONAR versions from 8.5.3 Producer Edition, X1 Producer, X2 Producer, X3 Producer and SONAR Platinum installed here on my studio workstation so it shouldn't be a version number question either.

That's quite different from "I'm totally unable to copy and paste audio BUS envelopes (no, I'm not talking about _track_ envelopes but bus envelopes)."
