I had PCR-800 working under WIN 10; but it took a trip to the cross roads.  Now since Win 10 has upgraded to Redstone (I think that is what it is called) it no longer works.
Roland Support Australia Comment in a reply email

The workaround for this situation is to switch the Advanced Driver off in the PCR-800.
pg.78 of the manual -
If you aren’t powering the keyboard via USB you will need a Roland PSB-240A (Australia). We cannot recommend using anything other than the Roland power supply as it can break the unit.
The PSB-240A is a sales item and is able to be purchased from any Roland dealer.
It is 9V 2.0A. I would have been better off money wise by buying a behringer keyboard with just the basic features - the same as I have now.

After looking through 2 boxes of Roland and Boss wall warts I found one close enough to spec so I could power the keyboard long enough to set it to just a straight keyboard - no bells and whistles. Once done you switch of the power and plug the USB lead in for power and basic communication.

I can't help thinking that Roland owned Cakewalk and cake extolled its virtues of the compatibility and correct boot up for sonar by the PCR series. Then cake were bought out - no life long relationship there - however, I think it is a matter of trust and morality that cake should back up all their hype about the PCR keyboards when they were released and do something about the driver. I know they have changed hands and it is no longer Cakewalk by Roland and windows has changed; but if they want us to buy into lifetime access to core changes then now is the time to take ownership of the problem. I will never buy any hardware from cake as here we have an example and no doubt to follow a large number of reasons why they shouldn't do anything, it was windows that broke the system etc - after all a cake product at the time is clearly now not considered so. How quickly hype disappears and you are left with what some might call a core feature - a keyboard to talk to software. "Hello integrity, shut the door on your way out".

Turn off driver signing (Google it) and install the 8.1 drivers for your PCR.

Thanks For the reply Jerry; but I had used the install 8.1 method and it worked but Windows have and are releasing the next release. Codename "Redstone 2" is the third major update to Windows 10 and the second of the 3 major updates planned under the Redstone codenames. The first preview flighted out to Insiders on August 11, 2016
It was this version that broke the PCR operation.
So I will try the same method as before to see if I can get the 8.1 driver operational again. Of course this could become a continuing problem with each new WX update.
The only true fix is for a real WX certified release for PCR series. Next for me is M-Audio KBoard

Making sure Roland is in the loop and understands there is a problem with PCR Drivers & Windows X
Step one - checked.
I wrote a letter to Roland Japan re the PCR series outlining how other companies have dealt with the issue and requested a read acknowledgement.
And they acknowledged reading the email - whether it results in anything substantial is a wait and see game now.

I gave up on my PCR500.  I had it working in Win 10 with the modified Win 8.1 driver but after the Anniversary Update it wouldn't work.  I tried reinstalling the modified driver but no go.  I tried the driver signing and it didn't help either.  Knowing enough PC to be "dangerous" I tried several other ways but couldn't get it working.   I rarely use MIDI keyboard and the PCR500 was bought when Guitar Center was "blowing out" the discontinued PCR line so I didn't have much invested in it.  It was sold to a person that still uses Windows 10.

I bought an inexpensive M-Audio 49 key unit.  Its Windows "plug and play" and Win 10 compatible.  For my limited use its all I need.

Hi soundtweaker, I'm thinking about the update in the next few weeks and I have a PCR-800. Would you mind detailing the steps you took? That is, did you (for example), unplug the PCR during the upgrade, disable driver signing, and then plug it in? Or did you have to re-install after disabling driver signing or something else?

Thanks
Dean

However there are at least 2 more versions of Redstone to yet be released. It will either be fixed or broken again.
