Hi everyone,

i have a problem that occurs: the moment my files are getting a bit bigger and i save, i cannot re-open the files, the computer seems to jam. Is it possible that i go too deep whilst recording, so deep that afterwards my computer cannot open them anymore?

Needless to say this is a big problem for me. I work with an IMac (boothcamp), so its not really a powerhorse for my daw. Maybe i should upgrade my pc platform?

Thanks, greetings!

I can't think of a reason why Sonar wouldnt open any project file, assuming the file is intact. It would be very helpful if you would say what the specification of your iMac is.

For example, i5 or i7, cpu GHz, how much RAM, hard disk/hybrid/SSD and if any external disk is being used?

Are you using an external audio interface or the built in one?

That is not possible.
We digitize tapes and vinyl with SONAR and have projects with over 100 GB per project. A lot of files with 96/24 that play about 4 hours. A project with 100 GB of audio takes about 2 minutes to open with a quad core and 8 GB RAM.

Even though audio files are not part of a project file. a project file can get big enough to be a problem when loading. It would help to know which version of SONAR is creating the files. I notice in a previous post the user mentions X1. There have been issues in the past with audiosnap causing project files to get very large, for example http://forum.cakewalk.com/FindPost/2901079.

Hello!

thanks for your replies. I am working with X1, but i also downloaded the demo version of the newest SONAR platinum. Also this version cannot open my saved files. The program does open the project, but before it is finally loaded the program blocks, and i have no other option then to force it to quit. I cannot do anything, neither can i get sound.

i work with an iMac with i5, and about 2.5 ghz cpu. I use boot camp to run windows. My projects are recorded in 24/96. I saved to CWP files, maybe i should have taken CWB, because there's midi files in there too, and now i'm afraid i lost my recordings... I work with the VS700 system, so the interface and the console.

Not alone am i afraid i lost my previous files, but also for the future i want to pin down the problem. Maybe i can fix it never to happen again.

greets

Guys,

opening in safe mode worked! Does this also tell me something about what went wrong?

Sounds like you figured it out, sorry I didn't respond earlier.

When you opened in safe mode, it bypassed the effects. If you used audio snap extensively, it may explain the huge size of the files and why it wouldn't open normally.
