You think you have found a scheme to fleece Cakewalk out of a copy of the software. It is a scam if the the upgrade sold requires a license which is not granted until the twelfth consecutive payment is made. Moreover this is not a tried method but something you are suggesting others do with their money not yours....nice.

It might have been something to report to Cakewalk but maybe not appropriate to post here. I am not going to delete the thread just yet but will make the staff aware.

Well, I'm still waiting on my call back from support to report it, but in the meantime, I've been told that the forums are the place to look for help.

If the requirement, in writing, of the lifetime upgrades is that it requires a full year's worth of Platinum or Producer to activate, then you are 100% correct. That method wouldn't work.

This is the first time I read you scheduled a call from support. I am curious, what slot do you have?

It was sarcasm, scook.

Tell ya what. I'm done with this thread and I'll leave you alone. When you are notifying staff, you may want to mention to them to update the Lifetime Updates FAQ to include the full 12 month Platinum requirement and make sure the store won't accept upgrade codes for only one month of a product.

Does this apply to all versions of SONAR Platinum?
Yes! Any purchase of SONAR Platinum including new versions, academic and upgrades will get free lifetime updates during the time period of June 1st - August 31st, 2016. These include purchases from the Cakewalk Shop or dealers.

Are Lifetime Updates available only for SONAR Platinum?
Yes, currently, Lifetime Updates are only available if you buy, upgrade, or crossgrade to SONAR Platinum. Be sure that when you’re adding SONAR Platinum to your cart, you choose the product called “SONAR Platinum (with Lifetime Updates).”

I still have a working license of Sonar Professional that I can install and run from the CCC that I only paid for one month. Isn't that exactly what the 'membership' foundation is all about?

Otherwise it becomes a subscription.

Actually, no. Paying monthly is a payment plan, where after paying for 12 months you own the license permanently. It is not a subscription as the word is defined with respect to computer software, where your license is renewed (or rented, if you prefer) every month upon receipt of your payment, and you never own the software permanently.

Thank you for the clarification on that. In the case above, would one be starting the payment plan for a month and then effectively renewing or "renting" the license in perpetuity after purchasing the Lifetime Updates?

The Lifetime updates option is part of the one-time payment plan only. Although it would happen if one continued to pay for the software using the monthly payment plan.

Hate to be the bad guy here, but...

1) This idea won't work -- for a couple of reasons, and...

2) I just want to note that we have the ability to monitor for these sort of behaviors, and reserve the right to refund and revoke the SONAR Platinum licenses of those who do successfully attempt anything of this nature. We haven't had to do anything like this yet, but just be aware that we can.

Sorry guys.

No, because you wouldn't own the program after paying for only a month. You'd be 1/12th of your way through a payment plan that leads to ownership and a permanent license at the end of the 12 months.
