To be sure, Google is the best way to search the forum.

To be fair, a new user probably will not intuit that the forum software search is lousy until he uses it and finds out for himself. The Google trick has been explained hundreds of times on this forum, and will probably need to be explained again. A sticky at the top of the forum on how to search using Google might help a little, but who would expect to need to look at the sticky when the forum seems to have a built in search function.

I am not surprised that I am not the only software user that gets annoyed when a feature does not work as it is apparently intended? Getting annoyed at annoyed users of broken software is pretty much the same kind of behavior.

So you're going to dump Sonar because the forum search function is lame? Perhaps I misunderstood your post, but that's how it sounds to me. Have you tried the help docs or google? Or perhaps even consider asking a question yourself? There's lots of people here who are happy to assist you in becoming proficient with Sonar.

In all fairness, I think it mat be more the case, and indicative of the fact that the OP has had enough of the attitude, the culture, which seems to be pervasive, might I say systemic in the Cakewalk world. Let me explain . . .
The forum search feature being broken, and broken for a long time, complained about over and over for a long time, and yet nothing is done about it. Instead 'workarounds' are thrown at the user, never mind that it takes more steps and is an inconvenience to the user. "There you go, you have a workaround, problem solved, no need to worry about that any more" The parallel's, the similarities with how the software, both Sonar and Cakewalks virtual instruments are gob smackingly similar. There are many areas of Sonar which are just plain broken, people have complained about them for years, still complain about them and still nothing is done. In many cases there will be workarounds thrown to the masses (sound familiar?) Lets not forget the virtual instruments, Z3TA2, I'm sure we are all familiar with that story? Rapture Pro, I'm sure no one will forget the state in which that was released?, how long did we have to wait for that to be brought into a condition where it was even remotely useable for a lot of people? 8 to 10 months that's how long, and for something which it was said at the time to have been in development for a long time (years) and still it landed in the state it did, and still today there are those, many who struggle with it, lets not forget our Mac user friends who still struggle. I may be wrong, but I think that is more along the lines of the OP if you read a little into it and not just look on the surface.

And yet he is labelled a 'Troll' with comments like "Somebody get the bug spray. The pests are back" never mind the fact that he has been a member since 2004, yeah I am sure that is plausible, he has just been hanging around for the last 12 years waiting for this day to unleash his master plan, waiting all this time developing his 'trolling' skills, sharpening them to precision. Well done people, you should be proud of yourselves, it is because of people like yourselves that these forums enjoy the reputation they do, well done, take a bow.

Then there is this poor fellow http://forum.cakewalk.com/Hello-and-Goodbye-m3391128.aspx
don't waste any time, just straight into it, that's the Cakewalk forums way, don't give them a chance, shoot first and ask questions latter, never mind that no self respecting person would bother to return after that, but keep attacking him while he is gone, after all that is the Cakewalk forum way, just ask those on the outside, they know it all to well. Well done people, take another bow, you deserve it !!

You know when you think about it, it is really you people who are the 'trolls' you sit there and at the slightest sign of someone turning up with a low post count, or who has just joined, hell . . . after todays effort it doesn't even matter if they have been here for 12 years, and if they don't enter singing the Cakewalk/Sonar mantra, kissing backsides and saying everything is roses, you Cakewalk sock puppets just pounce on them, again it's the Cakewalk forum way, it's a well known thing. It is you people, the sock puppets who are the trolls, worse then those YOU call trolls, far worse. Nothing I have said here is untrue, we both know that, it may be a little hard for you Sock Puppets to stomach, but hey.

Take another bow, you all deserve it, just count it as a down payment on the next poor unsuspecting person to foolishly come this way. Well Done!!

I agree that people are pretty quick to dish it out on here, but really if someone posts only a complaint with no possible problem to solve (I hate it, ok bye) I don't think that's very inviting of positive or constructive feedback. That said, it's always an option to not say anything.

Because I read a lot of forums not just the CW ones I know that the above is true in most every one of them. I also know that as a peer to peer forum all we can do is offer our best advice. This maybe a work around. It is offered as a way to get a thing done. That is what this forum is all about helping people get things done.

You see it as a weakness. I see it as a strength. One definition of a pro in any endeavor is being able to problem solve given the tools at hand. Most here understand that. If you see fault it is because we are about finding a solution for those seeking one. That is what causes some frustration with drive by posters. We are never given the opportunity to help. We watch as dispiriting comments are made and we take it with some sadness. Because we know from our own experience that it is not that way at all. Some try to offer some wisdom others handle it in their own way by saying something unpleasant. Sometimes they regret that.

Still we have a great group offering to help anyone that asks. We are not CW nor are we tech support. Yet some like yourself find reason to be very sarcastic and full of anger at us. Its like giving the shirt off ones back only to be ridiculed because it wont fit you well.

We have our limitations. One is not being too happy to be attacked by useless postings that proclaim they're leaving or some such when we didn't know they were ever here.

All it really says to me when a poster for the first post does that and also says they have been here for years is they have taken as much as they could from us without ever thinking they might offer something in return. And then leaving a virtual slap in the face for our not posting an answer to a question they never asked.

Its easy to point a finger if that is your thing. Its much harder to engage in the work being done here on a daily basis. That would mean you offer a bit of yourself so others may benefit. Finding fault with others is a popular pastime for those that really have no wish to see a better environment thrive.

We listen to your posts and all we can do is shake our heads in sadness for the utter waste of them.

Orphaned at Birth is yet another alt for the same person whose posts all have the common theme of shilling for Studio One and Reaper, hatred of SONAR, and contempt for the community. At least this alt is honest that he comes from a very dark place.

Just the fact that he thinks the community jumps on anyone who has something negative to say tells you all you need to know. This forum is extremely helpful to anyone having problems. However it is not tolerant of people who contribute nothing, nor should it be.

I had never banned anyone until this guy came along. I try to be tolerant but multiple alts are against the terms of service. I've banned most of them and this will be no different.

How disappointing. Thanks for the housekeeping though!

This is the most helpful forum of its kind in existence. But I agree, the search could be better. I find I get better results Googling. But when I do, I find a lot of Sonar posts, which almost always solve the problem.  And the responses from members here are as fast and helpful as any site in the world. To pick out one little flaw and conclude that this forum is "sad," is in itself sad.
