Another great tip. I didn't know of the Deals section in the forum but I found it. Thanks much.

I hope I'm not raining on your parade here...

Some of the early GigaSampler libraries imported well into Kontakt, but they were quickly eclipsed by newer libraries that offered better sounds, more features, etc. There are a handful of libraries (growing smaller every year) for which I have not found replacements, and for which I have not found a suitable player, but I can sadly tell you that importing Garritan Orchestral Strings, Larry Seyer's Acoustic Bass, or any of the Scarbee basses does not work well. My guess is all three used many of the advanced features of GS3, and they don't import into Kontakt cleanly.

There are two other players, G-Player and Samplelord, which look really promising. I haven't invested in either one yet because I'm waiting for them to properly import my favorite libraries. And they do get closer with each release - in fact G-Player is not (I believe) importing at all, they are playing the native files, just not quite as I remember them<G>!

Don't give up hope!

Brother Dan, The link you posted to the other thread ([<font]http://forum.cakewalk.com/Kontakt-4-importing-Gigastudio-help-m2044421.aspx) is a very good read and it may have saved me money, time and frustration. While everyone cast favorable reviews on Kontakt, I'm reading more and more about how it has difficulty converting some of the gig files and sample libs that are important to me. Mainly the 7'4” Kawai Gigapiano and some of the Vienna Orchestral sounds don't convert well with Kontakt. Apparently Tascam put several things in the gig files that don't translate in Kontakt. So right now the G-Player and Samplelord are ahead in the race because they don't convert, they just play the file like GS3 did, and for considerably less money. Someone even had trouble with some sounds in the Garritan library. I know NI put a lot of time into their programs too, and some may even sound better, but I've already paid for these samples and money is an issue, and they sound plenty good to me. So thanks for that. Regards

[<font](My guess is all three used many of the advanced features of GS3, and they don't import into Kontakt cleanly.) Bill, this seams to be the case and is discussed in a link provided by Dad, (dcumpian) in one of his posts on this thread. Thanks and regards.

James, FWIW, I ended up ditching all of my Giga stuff and went straight to NI's Komplete (8 at the time, 5 or 6 years ago). That gave me a pretty good start on replacing what I tossed. Gigapiano was replaced by Ivory II. That was actually the one Giga library I loved the most. Since then, there have been even better piano libraries for Kontakt.

If I was going to try and keep using them, I'd seriously consider G-Player, but I decided at the time that since the Giga format was pretty much dead, it was time to divest myself of the headache of trying to keep using those old libraries.

It wasn't an easy decision, but it is one I'm glad I made.

Regards,
Dan

Dan,
After beating this horse within an inch of it's life (and everybody else in this community), it would appear I must follow your advice and make the transition to Kontakt. Unfortunately, I'll have to wait for the $99 special to which SuperG tipped me. I did create an account with Native Instruments to download their Kontakt demo, and I suppose that puts me on their email Kontakt list. (Double entendre intended) I just wish I knew when that was going to happen. Perhaps if I inquire they would tell me, but from a marketing position I'd be surprised if they tipped their hand. I really do appreciate your help.
