This looks like a great digital board.  Records standalone to multitrack wav files in the field without a DAW.
 
In addition it can be used as a multitrack interface using USB.  I am very anxious to see if anyone has actually tried one of these with Sonar, and if so what kind of latency they are getting, and with how many live inputs, at what data rates etc.
 
Using either guitar amp plugins or soft synths live (and for recording)  has been very doable thing using a good high end i7 machine and my old Tascam FW board using Firewire ASIO I am getting good results with very low latency (with conservative use of plugins and unfrozen tracks), but this old board has its problems (the rare driver blue screen) and just its age.
 
I am very interested to see what kind of latency this board has.  The definitive test is record something on input track, echo it back to the master out on the mix, while also recording the monitor output on another track/input.  Then  zooming on on the recorded wave forms and measuring exactly the round trip latency.
 
If I can't find out that this board would exceed the performance of my FW1884 I don't want to spend the money on it.
 
Also I am considering the new tascam USB 16x08 but it seems like it is on hold because of driver problems.
 
I have USB3 (and firewire) on a very current high end i7 machine.

Funny I never have any problems with my FW-1884 under WIN 7 using legacy FW drives and the last SONAR driver from Tascam. Albeit that when I decided to upgrade I went with RME UFX since I don't play live.
 
My FW-1884 is just a control surface now with the exception that I lightpipe my FW-1884 mic pres into the RME for added inputs if I ever need them (have not yet).

I use an Allen Heath ZED R16 via firewire and love it.  No noticeable latency at all.

The QU16 has been on my radar for live small setups for awhile too, hoping somebody will be the one to bite the bullet and give it a try before me.

This is called the loop back test and it's not really testing RTL unless you un check 
Use ASIO reported Latency and leave the offset at 0.
The audio drivers will report the latency to Sonar and the reported latency is added in etc. So the loop back test should always show perfect line up of the waveforms unless the driver is badly written.

I'm using a qu-24 and have cut across to using it as my main audio interface - in place of a motu 828ii. The qu-24 is a fantastic piece of kit, and I have had no problems at all with latency. I record a lot of concurrent tracks, and overdub with lots of softsynths running.
 
There are just 2 warnings:
It only records and plays back at 48khz 24Bit. No problem for new projects, but if you have lots of old projects with different sample rates these need labourious conversion if you want to ovoverdub them using the qu mixer. Sonar is great for accomodating files with different bit depths, and its sample rate conversion is superb, but sonar project sample rate can't be changed: the projects have to be reconstructed. This is quite a big drawback for me, so the motu is still in service for work on older projects.
The other warning is about using the qu as a control surface for sonar:it seems like you will have to build it from scratch 
 
 
 

Hello all.
I recently purchased the Qu-16 and have done all the necessary updates, installed the ASIO drivers into my Lenovo y70 Touch, and the latest Firmware into the Qu-16. Sonar and the Qu-16 are interfacing, but I'm only seeing the odd numbered tracks from the Qu-16 in the ASIO driver page in Sonar. Has anyone else had this problem,and if so can you recommend some possible solutions?
