  • speed up tempo map?

Hey there..

I have a midi performance that has a tempo map (lots of changing tempos)
I've been asked to speed the whole thing up. Is there a way to speed up the session over-all but keep the relationship of the original tempo map?

Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks

This has been a popular one lately. SONAR does not have a dedicated feature for this. Here's the workaround I've posted before; it's a little awkward because you have to calculate time in SMPTE frames, but it works well:

1. Enable Auto-stretch (a.k.a. Clip Follows Project in Auto-stretch mode) on all audio clips.
2. Select a MIDI or audio clip that runs the length of the project (or select in the timeline).
3. Go to Process > Fit to Time.
4. Convert the current Thru time to total frames (usually 30 frames/sec).
5. Divide that by the desired tempo change factor (e.g. 1.10 to get a 10% increase, 0.90 for a 10% decease).
6. Round and convert that new value back to minutes:seconds:frames.
7. Select Modify by Changing: Tempo Map, and enter the new Thru time.
8. Click OK.

Thanks, I will look into that.

PS. Sonar, why not have a "tempo offset mode" where one can speed or slow global tempo by a % or BPM on top of any mapped tempo info? It would be a helpful feature.

Earlier versions had a 'Tempo Offset' setting with three user-customizable values, but it was only applicable to pure MIDI projects because audio requires stretching to stay in sync. So the setting was usually grayed out, and they eventually removed it.

I would say it's about time for something like it to make a comeback with an option to automatically enable Autostretch on audio clips and the ability to 'apply' an offset once you've found the value you want.

I'm sure somethings's been posted in the Feature Request forum by now.

I hear older versions of Sonar did have a "Scale Tempo" feature. There have been requests floating around to bring it back. I would certainly support that.

How do I find the feature request forum? I don't see it.
Thanks

It's actually 'Features & Ideas' in the [Feedback Loop] section of the main page at http://forum.cakewalk.com. I don't think the forum allows hiding subforums as it used to (?), so you should see it.

I've proposed this before:  if CW developers would only expose Tempo Events in some way that a CAL program could see them and change them, then this feature would be very easy to implement in CAL.    It's possible tempo events are already accessible, even, but nobody knows what they are called.    Afaik .. I've searched CAL documentation for such a thing several times.
