This is also a question I hope to see others explain from Boydie:

Can someone explain the "real time synth recording" update as I am not understanding what the problem was and what the update has fixed?

I have always recorded synths in real time along with the track playing? - so I am guessing it is referring to something else and a problem I never came up against?

There was no problem, this is a new feature people have asked for a long time and Cakewalk have delivered.
Have you checked the ezine link on the first post. That will probably explain "direct synth recording" better.
Cheers..

You could always record a synth in real time as MIDI but not as audio. Audio had to be rendered by bouncing or freezing the synth earlier. Now you can record audio from "virtual inputs" from synths just like they were hardware ports. This also allows you to record any live parameter changes from the synth without the need to record automation envelopes. Its a much simpler way of working with synths if you don't need to do a lot of MIDI and automation editing later. Also for users with a non MIDI background it will be more natural to record this way.

Nice work. I just happen to log onto the cakewalk forum and I find the next update is available. Put a smile on my dial and a few new dials in the Pro Channel. In fact, the new single knob Pro Channel effects are just the Bees Knees, the Cats Whiskers, the Ducks Guts and a lot more of those things. Can't wait to press them into action.
I am, however, still exploring some of the additions from the G update, let alone the H update.

Read the eZine. Looks great. Can we get some attention paid to automation now? Like maybe some automation "track" type stuff where the user can draw/record/edit automation and have it affect multiple automation envelopes in a project. Basically a "write it/assign it" (or vice versa) set up that then writes the automation into the ACTUAL automation lanes. Maybe a "send to" pasting style option that can be pasted using range select (so you can overwrite parts of existing envelopes without overwriting the whole thing). Stuff like that. It would sure make my life a million times simpler.

As to this update. I have personally experienced (and have been frustrated with) the following things that are now supposedly fixed... so thanks.

oops... copy/pasting from the eZine goes schizo soo...

The disappearing transients thing is HUGE and was the one thing that made AS almost unuseable for me in X2 (and seemed to lead to crashes). I have not tried the new AS in SPlat but if it was still doing this but now has been fix.... THANK YOOOOOUUU!!!!

Undoing overlapped clips leaving an extra take lane... yup. That's annoying.

Track folders moving to the bottom. I think that was a new oddity that I've just started noticing and it is very disorienting. Glad that's dealt with.

Shift click not working... I was wondering what the heck was going on there. Another new one (I think) that I guess is now fixed.

Drag dropping Browser clips creating new unwanted lanes... yup. I think that's an old one. Not a big deal but it causes extra head scratching.

The PRV keyboard think might explain some confusion I've had but I have been screwing around in PRV that much lately.

The hotkeys thing could explain some odd tool behavior.

Extra transients in Audiosnap probably led to the chaos of my previous AS experiences. Sounds about right.

=======================================

So yeah, lots of fixes this round that apply directly to ME.... and as we all know, it's all about ME!

:-p

Thanks, doods. I'll be waiting a while to install but if it passes the stingent user testing in the coming weeks I am looking forward to it.

What is this regression you are always banging on about?

here's a current example, a new function has broken an existing function: http://forum.cakewalk.com/Ipswich-broke-bounce-to-clip-with-track-arpeggiator-m3288414.aspx#3288751

Sadly this update does not correct the problem with the new start screen being unable to find a project if there is an apostrophe in the file name.

Back to the bug report again. Unfortunately I use this character in file names often which makes the start screen useless for me.

Otherwise seems like a really good update.

Hmm I tried making a project with an apostrophe in the name and it worked perfectly in Ipswich for me.
What is an example of a file name that doesn't open?

The CCC seems a lot more responsive.

I downloaded the update plus the local offline documentation (which used to take 20+ minutes on its own) and the whole thing was completed in about 6 minutes. and that was over wireless wi-fi

Keni the new modules appear as PC modules when you right click the PC and choose Insert Module.
They appear at the bottom under Style dial Fx

Oh, and the new Start Screen also seems quicker

Thanks Jonesey...

I was pretty sure I'd find them there. What I was uncertain of was whether they required a separate download... I'm guessing not?
