  • [SOLVED!] Start/Stop 4 second Delay

For various reasons I have been away from working with Sonar and recording since Feburary. (Used it almost everyday for 4 years prior to that). I have been updating SPLAT montly and today I updated to Ipswitch and wanted to start recording again. I am using a Cakewalk VS100 for my control surface. When I first open a project and hit play it starts up instantly. After that it takes about 4 seconds to use any stop/play etc. before anything happens.

I searched through the forum, and the only mention of the issue is a post that talks about the same problem where the Ipswitch upgrade was announced, but I haven't seen any solutions.

Any help would be appreciated as this is very aggrevating.

PS: Rolling back to Hopkinton solved this issue. Would appreciate if a solution was found so I can update to Ipswitch et al.

Smells of audio interface drivers. Before you rule it out because it works in previous Sonar version remember latest Sonar is working for most.

Turn on PDC to see if it makes a difference.
Update your audio interface drivers and firmware to the latest.
Run windows update.

Can you provide the link please to the post you are talking about, VS100 again?

Dok,

Thanks for the help! I do have the latest driver (2.0.2.0) and firmware (1.5) for the VS100. I reloaded Ipswitch and even with PDC enabled I still have the 4 second delay.

Thanks for the update, but there seems to be a major bug in this new Ipswitch update. I'm working on a TV show and there is a big problem with the videos. I'm just opening the same project I was working on yesterday on the Hopkinton version where everything was working great and now in this new version, any kind of starting and stopping playback action takes at least 4-5 seconds and when I stop the playback the video keeps running for 4-5 seconds by itself while Sonar becomes unresponsive. Please let me know how to fix this issue! I'll have to go back to Hopkinton until this is fixed. Thanks!

EDIT: I just realized that it's not only a video issue. Regular audio only project started doing the some thing. Takes 4-5 seconds to start and stop playback. Maybe third party plugin/synth problem? Although it still does it when all the synths are disabled that were loaded originally. Just simple audio playback causes it. AND projects take longer to open than before!

UPDATE: I stated a new project and used a similiar song as my template. I eliminated all the tracks except for a new audio track I added. It now works perfectly.

I thought I had a temp fix to get me recording again, but no joy! I tried several of my projects in ipswitch and they all exhibit the sluggish transport operation that others are seeing. I'll call Cakewalk tomorrow and see if I can get through to someone. Meanwhile I've reverted back to Hopkinton so I can get some recording done.

Try turning off "Allow Arm Changes During Playback/Record" in preferences.

THE DOKTOR KNOWS BEST! Thanks! That solved the problem.  I don't arm during Playback/Record anyway, but it sounds like Cakewalk might address this in the next release.
