Put two tracks in a folder.   Leave folder open.    Open PRV for both of the tracks in the same PRV window.   Select one track by clicking in the PRV's Track Pane.  Add a note.   Select the other track by clicking in the PRV's track pane.  Add a note.    All works fine.

Now go back to Track View, close the folder.    Return to PRV.   Select one track, add a note.   Attempt to select the other track ... can't be done.   Your new notes will go into the other track, even though it will appear that the desired track is selected (it is highlighted in the PRV's Track pane).

I can't make it happen. It works as expected on my end.

I tried two different ways. With the PRV in the multi-dock at the bottom half of screen. And with the multi-dock expanded full screen.

I can select which ever track I want with the folder open or closed.

[edit] I can also add notes to the tracks I select and they go to that track I select.

The work-around to the PRV selection problem with a closed folder is strangely the same as that in post http://forum.cakewalk.com/FindPost/3216130.  Open a Console view and selections in the PRV track list should start working.

I back tracked through Sonar versions and found that the selection problems with folders started in Sonar X3.  This version was the first to use a highlighted track name to indicate an "Active" track.  I think I recall that the method of "Active" track indication was changed because track color options were added.

Can't reproduce it. Works absolutely fine here.

Having the console view open or closed, and docked, has made no difference, but I wonder: I use multiple 'floated' PRV windows , so perhaps this is an issue only for floated PRV tracks?

There must be some other cause. I still cannot reproduce it, with multiple floated PRVs, with the folder closed.

This is strange.

I'm finding it's system specific.

Behaviour is as expected on one machine but is working as described by williamcopper on my laptop

Just to explore further, I created a new project, "normal" template, which is the sonar default I have not changed.   This is Platinum, latest release, Windows 7, but I believe the bug is old.    This happens on my system regardless of whether the PRV is floated or docked.

These steps probably don't matter, but they are how I just did it:
1.   Float inspector
2.  Close inspector.
3.   Close Console view.
Then:
4., 5., 6.  Create a midi track.  Create a midi track.  Create a midi track.
7.  Select the two lower tracks, right click, select move to new folder.
8. With folder open, select the two tracks that are in the folder.
9. Open PRV.
10.  Draw a note in the first PRV track (track 2 in the Track Window).
11.   Select the other PRV track (track 3)
12.  Draw a note in track 3.    All ok.

Now:
13. Leaving PRV open, close the Folder in Track Window.
14. Return to PRV: attempt to create a note in alternate tracks by selecting the track in the PRV track pane.
Can't be done:  all the notes go onto the track that was selected when the folder was closed.

Correction to the above:    It appears that closing the Console View, as SquireBum said, makes a difference in this simple procedure, though as I posted above, in a more complicated set up, opening a Console View did not help:  perhaps never closing console view is necessary?

Just re-did the same procedure, omitting only "close console view".   The track selection worked correctly.  Then I closed Console View, and the bug came back.

Then I OPENED console view again, and the bug REMAINED.   Aha.
