Is there a way to use both my Studio-Capture and for example a USB connected POD X3 at the same time? 
 
I know I can run analog from the POD X3 to a channel on the Studio-Capture, just curious if Sonar (Platinum in my case) can be made to use two devices at the same time.
 
 

You can use more than one interface at the same time, but, with a few exceptions, not while using ASIO drivers. Which means using the Windows drivers for the interfaces which is likely to result in a lot of latency.

The interfaces which are exceptions to this are ones where the manufacturer has written their ASIO driver to allow for more than one of their interfaces to be used at the same time.

They can be used together, if you run under MME(Windows Audio) or WDM,
both found under Sonar Preferences/Audio/Playback and Recording.
 
ASIO does not share drivers, so no on that front.
 
A third option(old school but effective) would be
Word Clock Sync, if both interfaces offer that choice.

Actually if you decide to try the MME or WDM drivers the reason there usually problems is because you really need a clock to synchronise the sample rates.

Using word Clock is not old school, it's the only way to accurately synchronise two devices. When they're not available then SPDIF connectors can work to provide the synch signal, otherwise you'll likely get lots of clicks pops and dropouts.

Using MME drivers you'll get poor latency. If the WDM drivers are well written they're potentially as good as ASIO drivers. If you're simply playing back audio then latency may not matter and MME will be OK.

Another alternative is to use ASIO4ALL which is a wrapper that makes MME and WDM drivers appear like ASIO drivers. Use it with caution. It allows you to aggregate drivers and devices. Sometimes it solves problems and sometimes it creates problems worse than you're trying to solve.

MME is not going to work well. Its not meant to access more than 2 tracks or one stereo input and output. WDM which is the driver I prefer can handle multiple kernel streaming inputs and outputs and is low latency.

Frankly, you probably won't notice much difference if one of the devices runs analog. Something like a distortion device has enough of a noise floor and distortion that any benefits from running digital are likely theoretical rather than practical.

I've attempted to use ASIO4ALL as an aggregator, but it ended up marginal at best.
 
Like you, I have several guitar toys that have USB interfaces but lack enough features for real use; specifically when it comes to monitoring.
 
So my THR10 and GT-001 get their analog OUTs stuffed into a proper interface for recording.
 
The only thing I really wish I could use the USB interface on is my Laney IRT Studio.  The USB interface is central to the amp's dry recording and reamping abilities.  As a work-around, I just record thru Guitar Rig, then pump the dry signal back out to the amp.  It works fine this way, but would be more straight-forward via USB.  I guess the only option is to go Mac, but we know what THAT means.
 
To me the lack of interface aggregation in Windows is as ridiculous as an application with tons of data files that doesn't have installation location flexibility.

Not sure if rewire works?...but was thinking of setting up a Daw with one asio driver, and another Daw with another asio, and rewiring them, set clock to syc to one device...and that might work to bring in more track inputs through using two device for audio..into the main daw being used perhaps?..Never tried it like that with two asio drivers of different origins on same system...so it is to the techies to really answer if it works...if it does, then it could help if all else fails perhaps?

And be careful of WDM mode. I'm doing some loop back testing and finding WDM mode does not use the drivers reported latency properly like ASIO,  so the tracks are out of sync by large amounts. 
If you use WDM mode you should run the loop back test and manually change the offset setting.
