  • New Bandlab version will mess with your Platinum install (p.2)

I failed to realize that both Platinum and Bandlab would use the same plugin manager and that the install would over write both programs. I thought from the announcement that both  versions would remain independent and not contaminate each other. I saw in another thread that Bit cautions against removing the new install lest it render Platinum inoperable. Live and learn...

Plugin manager is a shared component. Even if CbB updated it it should make no difference to your Platinum install.
We'll investigate.

This is exactly what used to happen for SONAR (and CWPA before that) upgrades to new versions.
(that's why SPLAT was great, because we didn't have ot do this every year...)

You just have to go through the paths, and copy things like templates, plugin menus, FX chains, customised rum maps etc etc to the new folders - or else point the new version to the old folders.

This is not anything new...

I copied my custom plugin file to the new "Cakewalk Core" folder and added the folder paths to my third party VSTs in plug-in manager and all was well. All of my invited plugin all shows up to the party!!!

Hi Noel,
One thing I noticed after successfully installing CbB, when I opened projects created in SPLAT that had UAD plugins the GUI's that have meters and switchable options (like hidden options or the moving reels on the Studer A800) no longer worked. The audio still plays through the plugins and is still affected by the GUI controls, but the meters and other visual GUI components no longer work as expected. When I opened the projects in SPLAT the UAD plugins now exhibit the same behavior (because of the shared Plugin Manager component?). Curiously, when I create a "new" project the UAD plugins work as expected. It is only when opening previously saved SPLAT UAD projects in either SPLAT or CbB that have the GUI issues. Any clue as to what may be going on or better yet how to fix?
Otherwise, CbB seems to be working as expected and no other issues to report.

Great job on getting CbB up and running so quickly! Nice to have this DAW back in the fold again.

No issues here. If you see missing plug ins go to Edit>Preferences>VST and set the paths for your folders.

I was a bit unorganized in my vst installations prior to this. If this is you maybe do a search and write down all of the folder locations or consolidate. I have mine in half a dozen different folders. I also had a bunch  of unregistered demos it scanned that I'll need to remove. This is forcing me to get more organized.

I selected to only download the software with no content. Amazing how fast that download was and how fast it opened on my desktop. It found all my 3rd party stuff. No complaints.

A few other tips. Run the Bandlab.exe as administrator and don't close Bandlab in the system tray while attempting to download.

I have the same problem with VSTs installing themselves in different folders and then having to add new paths for the plugin manager to scan. Can you just cut and paste the VST files so they're all in one or two paths?

Of course you can. You can put them wherever you want.
Put them all in subfolders of one place (like c:\vst folders\64 bit) - then you can just point the Cakewalk scanner at the one place (c:\vst folders\64 bit).
