If you choose the option to add a MIDI track as well in the pop up dialog box then it will route THAT MIDI track to the softsynth you inserted.  if your MIDI track is added separately from that dialog box at the time of the softsynth insertion, then you have to set the output of the MIDI track to the softsynth manually.

I was unaware of that option. TBH, I haven't seem that dialog box in a while since I have templates for most everything.  The essential truth is, you have to route the midi track. Good to know it's in the dialog box though.

IIRC, I've never set the output of a MIDI track anywhere when inserting AD or any other soft synths. As long as I remember (since SONAR 4 or longer??) "Insert soft synth" command has created all the MIDI and audio tracks automatically, either all outputs or only one.
Then again, I've always started from scratch, I've never had the MIDI ready waiting for the appropriate synth.

This is confusing because of a lot of replies haha!

What Beagle has mentioned, sounds like something similar i did before!

Because i had the midi drum track on the midi channel and i had addictive drums running on a audio channel, because it would not let me add addictive drums to the midi channel for some reason! But i just couldn't remember how i did it.

Just a quick note about my PC, i cleaned it to factory standard so i could send it back to the original retailers where it came from (pc specialist) due to hardware malfunctions! so i didn't let a random person do it :)

When i got it back i just installed addictive drums and sonar x2 like i did before so nothing different!

Thanks for the replies guys! It's very nice to know people are keen on helping and replying on a forum like this! :)

That post has a lot in it which is helpful to using AD in SONAR.

Up top of page in Sonar click INSERT and choose SOFT SYNTH , drop down list, select Addictive Drums.
Dialogue box opens, here you can choose first midi track, separate tracks for each drum instrument or a stereo only output or both.
Open AD
Select BEATS tab
Click on TEMPO and SYNC buttons (lights up) so AD is working with Sonar tempo and starts when Sonar starts to play or record.
Or start AD play button.

(I personally output only a stereo master into Sonar for writing or creating a tune.
Once the tracking is done you can reinstall another instance of AD this time each drum instrument having its own track in Sonar etc.for mix down. Just drag the original midi file you compile down to the new instance of AD on its midi track.)

Ok i still can't get this to work or figure it it, why 't addictive drums just be a simple midi track?

I have unistalled x2 and downloaded the trail for x3 now to see if that works, and if i get it working fine i may upgrade. But still can't get it to work and in my outputs in preferences it says ASIO output not connected?

AD uses a simple MIDI track, there must be something else going on  that we're not aware of, or that you've not told us about.

uninstalling and reinstalling is very likely NOT going to solve this problem.

ASIO output not connected - there is something we didn't know about!  I also don't see where you told us what soundcard you're using?
