  • Sonar X2a - Can I move the SI multi-sample files?

Hello.  I have Sonar Producer X2a (64 bit).  On installation Sonar put the Studio Instrument plug-in .dll files in the plug-in folder I requested.  However, Sonar installed the Studio Instrument multi-sample files (1.3 GB worth) on my C: drive under C:\Program Files(x86)\Cakewalk\Studio Instruments.

For housekeeping purposes and for better performance when streaming multi-samples, I would like to have the large multi-sample libraries on a separate drive from my system drive.  So my question is: can I move these SI multi-sample files to a different drive, and if so, how do I tell the plug-in where to find its respective multi-samples?

Thank you.

All the Cakewalk sfz engine synths work the same way. They do not stream samples. The synths read a registry entry for the default sample path. Relocating the samples is a matter of editing the registry or creating a directory junction to the new location. This thread details all the registry entries http://forum.cakewalk.com/FindPost/2673527. Creating directory junctions using mklink has the advantages of not modifying the registry so it with add-on installers which do not use the registry. Using mklink is a two step process; move the directory to the new location then issue the mklink command mklink /j oldPath newPath.

Hello.  Thank you scook.

Yay!  Thanks to the link you provided me, I was successfully able to move the large SI data files off my C: drive, and onto a dedicated data drive.  I started up Sonar after making the move and changing the registry (I decided to go ahead and make the changes to the registry rather than using a directory junction), and everything worked fine.

Thank you scook.  I really appreciate your help!!
