  • Is there a way to map a midi controller to perform tap tempo? (p.2)

Not sure which "Tempo button" was mentioned and what is the goal.

Sorry guys, let me be more clear.

Say I'm jamming on guitar and I dial my delay in just where I like it so I am playing rhythmically with my delay. Say it's an analog delay like my Echoplex so there is no firm temp indicator anywhere.

I want to tap a foot switch on the Behringer to set the tempo of the project to match what I'm playing - so I that when I start recording (another footswitch) the drums etc of the project are playing at the tempo I want to record at.

If you have any audio in your project at all, SONAR wants to sync to audio. Period. Softsynths are considered audio, whether or not they are frozen, or bounced. In other words, Midi Time Clock will ONLY work in an ALL MIDI (external sound modules, or virtual midi loop drivers to external soft synths) project. I wasted money on a Midi Clock to do just what you are looking to do.

Ultimately, Bitman's solution above, to play free-tempo, then create a tempo map after the fact (with all the associated hurdles) is the best answer I have found.

Than it is the first option in my previous post (open this dialog, focus "Click here.." button, imitate "space", press "Ok" when ready). I do not think that is possible without external utilities.
With AZ Controller that can be implemented, for example, using just one button: first press - open dialog and focus "Click here", consequent short presses - define the tempo, last "long" press - "OK". If (and only if) you want to try that, I can prepare such preset.

It would be a nice addition AZslow.
I find myself tapping that thing quite a bit trying to find out tempos for new ideas.
I have Mackie control personally so im guessing I could probably map it with my foot switches ?

He is using a Behringer foot controller but I don't think he mentioned if he is using your plug in.

It was a half-thought. Sorry on my phone.

I didn't mean to sound so snippy - sorry. :/

azslow that sounds like an interesting idea! I have a Mackie with extender - would it be mapping something there or would your drivers work with the Behringer?

I'm a bit surprised this is so hard to do. With Ableton Push they have a button AND a knob so you can change temps in real-time very easily...

Ahhh, The old, this is so basic why cant it be done in Sonar.

And what about vocal comping or take lanes in Ableton Push ?
They are absent. Im sure you would agree those are very basic features.
what one tool does, another might not.

Unfortunately it will not work with Mackie control, asking two plug-ins to work with one device is looking for big troubles...

With Behringer. But from the previous comment, AZ Controller should be THE ONLY Control Surface plug-in working with it. So if you use "ACT MIDI" or "Generic Surface", you will need to remove it... No so bad, AZ Controller can do everything these plug-ins can do (and much more), but you will have to write me what you need (f.e. you have mentioned "record" already).

I do not have any surface right now, so I will publish the preset later (after checking it works).

I can implement many "workarounds" using AZ Controller, but Sonar itself is not in my hands...

Funny thing is Azslow, I can map every thing in the: Project>Tempo menu with my footswitch besides that little tap box

I tried it last night but there is no getting around it.

I'd say Tap Tempo is a bit more basic than take lanes - but take lanes are one reason I'm trying to come back to Sonar! :)
