Make sure you do that delete for All versions of those files on your hard drive.

Report back and let me know how it works.

After getting more into the X3 and the V-Studio 700 I cant get access the mic pre and Direct mix Controls (they are greyed out).  Everything Works in X2 though.

I'm wondering, do you have "IO VS-700" selected in your MIDI Devices menu? Not "IO MIDI VS-700", just "IO VS-700". If so, can you deselect for both Inputs and Outputs and then completely close and re-open SONAR? Afterwards, try launching that panel again. If that's what's going on, than that has always been an issue. Selecting that port interferes with the Control Surface Plug-ins ability to speak to the Mic Pres and Direct Mixer controls.

@ Dyonite,

What build are you running by the way? Is it SONAR X3 from discs or the SONAR X3a update from the download? I saw confirmation in the X3a notes that a crash bug in X3 related to the VS-700 was resolved in the X3a update (which will be available to disc customers soon). Just wondering if that might have been the case. I'm glad to hear it was a one time thing though.

Also, regarding ACT mappings, something you might try is holding down CTRL + SHIFT and launching SONAR. It will prompt you if you want to personalize settings. Say [Yes]. The goal with the technique is that it repairs (versus simply placing missing files with SHIFT launch) files from the global user directory to your local user directory.

Hi John

Thank you so much!!! It finally works - and that info on how to customize PC module mapping is mega helpful. 10 min of fiddling with the setup and all those mis-mappings from the PC presets were ironed out and now they are retained between reboots :-))

Cheers

Thanks Ryan nice to "see" you :). I run the X3a download version and never had a single hiccup since I made the following change:

About the crash I've reported, I remembered I updated my daw BIOS recently and entered all my settings back, except one... I have 1.65v ram sticks and my mobo default this value to 1.5v, so my ram was underpowered. Everything was fine and all of a sudden everything randomly froze or crashed and got the occasionnal BSOD.

Now everything is blazing fast, rock solid and amazing.

I'm not at the studio at the moment but I will make sure I check the tricks regarding prochannel mapping.

Thanks!

So... with control mappings sorted out, is everything else working ok?

yeah. happy camper here :-) but I'm still on X2a - with all the positive feedback I read about X3 I think I will be upgrading 2 weeks down the road when the current project is completed (it's been all X2a and working fine, I just want to finish it that way) ... although the comping improvement is tempting to upgrade earlier ...

As regards the vs-700 I'd only wish that the channel strip locking feature + auto-scroll to selected channel in console view + proper VS-700 functionality with hidden strips would return. These are the biggest gripes I have with the CS, but I learned to live with it ...

Ok, first impressions after 4 hrs on X3b - the new comping was too tempting to resist for the editing I need to do right now, so I went for the upgrade ...

No installation problems, apart from the annoyance that there is no offline installer / activation for addictive drums (more here)

Nice things with X3b
  • console display again follows vs-700 channel select button (like it did in X1d)
  • nudging from vs-700 now fixed (caused crash in X2a)
  • comping is indeed really nice: very efficient when done with mouse, but also (pretty much) doable from the console using SPLIT button to set comping parts (drawbacks: it has to be done from back to front to keep clips selected and I don't think using SPLIT introduces cross-fades), SHIFT+PLAY to audition, vs-700 cursor to jump between clips and OK/ENTER to select which clip should be the "chosen" one
  • custom colors (although I did not miss them much)

Not so nice things
  • still some issues with WAVES plugs (which I need to follow up on, more here that should hopefully also solve my issues)
  • 5 crashes in 4 hrs (!!!): one after 3 minutes when just working heavily on the jog and cursors, then none for 3 hours, then 4 in 30 minutes (@ save after comping, @ clone track, @ changing audio card settings i.e. increasing ASIO buffer, @ disabling all FX globally from button in navigation bar right after reloading project) ... None of the crashes lost me any work due to auto-save, neither required a reboot; however, still pretty "wild" and I'm glad this was a lonesome editing session ... and no, my system is not the problem, I did have about 5 crashes in the entire past 9 months (since using X2a and staying away from 32bit plugs)

Unfortunately, yes. X3b - I have edited my earlier post to make that clear.

I still hope that some of these crashes results from a mix of VST2 and VST3 ... or from the project being created in X2a ... but I need to get some of the work done first before I indulge in software details like tracking which plug-ins got converted which weren't ...
