Greetings to the community.  I just purchased a Samson Go Mic USB microphone. With it came bundled the Music Creator LE 5 software. Are there any known compatibility issues with Windows 8.1?  I'd prefer to not install the software if it will not function as designed.  Thanks in advance!

Maybe you need compatibility mode perhaps for Win 7 compatibility, but more important would be drivers for whatever audio/interface you have - having drivers for Win 8.1

Otherwise you would probably just have to try it, but since then MC 6 has come out (along with MC 6 Touch).
MC 5 made more for XP and Vista and updated to be compatible with Windows 7. That is all it states.

Thanks for the input.  I downloaded the update to LE 5.0.6.3 for Win 7 compatibility.  There were no apparent issues with the installation; but since I'm running 64 bit, it might be a stretch to expect flawless use of the software on Win 8.1.  I'm dubious but will give it a try.

The biggest issue will be that USB mic. Often, users have problems with them for a number of reasons.

Righto, Herb.  Now that I've been able to browse this forum in more detail, I can see that you are famously anti-usb.  However, the Samson Go Mic gets great reviews in terms of bang for the buck, and there must be a reason Cakewalk was bundled with it.  That being said, given your earlier posts, I may be looking at outdated software wrt my OS.  You also mentioned in one post that below version 6, there may be an issue with 64 bit Windows.  Once satisfied with my basic knowledge of how to use the software, I'll test it and see.  Thanks for your comments.

wow...learn something new every day.... I'm famously anti-usb.....

Hate to bust that bubble.... but I'm actually pro-USB as long as it's an interface we're talking about.

As far as how great the USB mics are, I have no problems with people using them. Fact is, they are not the best way to record even though Cake does bundle their LE software with those mics. I think it's a marketing ploy to introduce people to Cakewalk and hope they buy "up".

The USB mics are rather difficult buggers to set up and get operational using 2 sound cards as most folks are required to do who actually want to record mid and audio projects using a usb mic..... so much so that they made a "STICKY' post out of a post from an experienced user who explained in detail how to actually make the USB mic work with Cakewalk in a reasonable manner.

So no, I don't encourage people to use them but if they wish to try, I always point them toward that sticky post in the LE forum as a guide on how to proceed. It is so much easier to use a USB interface as the sound card rather then to try to make 2 cards work together.

Peace.

Hello to all,

I was looking on the Cakewalk  forum for an answer to the question whether MC5 LE is compatible with Windows 8.1, I found this post and would like to share my experience , I have found a copy of MC5 LE included with the Samson Go Mic microphone, and since this product is very widespread, I hope that others may find useful in my experience ...
I have successfully installed MC5 LE on my Acer Aspire ONE 725 netbook, I usually use Sonar Producer X2 for my musical compositions (with an i5 laptop) but I needed a small portable workstation to create podcasts and audiobooks, and given the low performances of the AMD C60 cpu of my netbook, I decided to try MC5 LE...
I must say, after quite a bit of evidence, that it works without any problems, the software is very light on the cpu, I also installed Studio Intruments (useful to enrich my speech recordings with some midi) without any major problems, they works...
With the help of some audio loops , I'm having so much fun ;-)
Two words on the microphone Go Mic: although many may find "problematic" usb microphones (and for some uses, I do not find them suitable) for speech recording, I found the Go Mic excellent for the price and with MC5 LE works without any problems, I also tried the ASIO4ALL drivers and also works with that though, for the use that I do, I find it pretty useless, the better the MME drivers, they work without any major problems and the Go Mic has a function for monitoring without the need for ASIO drivers.

I hope I have been of help to others and good luck to all

...Shure, Go Mic works well with X2 Producer also, but here, i prefer other solutions (V-Studio 20 my favourite...)
