  • What do you use to control SONAR with an iPad?

I've used V-Control Pro by Neyrinck for several years.  It usually works, but it is buggy and unreliable.  It also requires a purchase via iLok if you want added features. Recent failures from updates to the app (or perhaps Windows 10) have made me reconsider staying with it.

What else is out there that is reliable?  It does not have to be free.  All I want to do is select and arm a track for recording, control the faders, and control the transport.

Thanks.

Currently I am using Lemur on my iPhone.  It is connected to Sonar through AZ-Controller, which is a free control surface program writing by AZSlow3.  Here is a link to a most recent discussion concerning this.

I can connect it through OSC or midi ports with LoopBe.  You may want to check out AZSlow3 site which has extensive comments and help on these connections:  http://www.azslow.com

A big part in all of my trials with this was learning a bit about and using AZ-Controller.  This also works great for my MCU-PRO.

I use the first version of V-Control - it doesn't require iLok and for me works as advertised.

I sometimes switch to AC7 but rtpmidi is finicky to say the least.

THanks for these tips.

Jerry, I wanted to use my iPhone and tried the paid version of V-Control.  I never got it working.  Going back to the free version and starting over might be right.

Looking in the App Store, it appears a few possibilities even run by an Apple Watch.  Amazing.

Just a quick thought - you did install the Neyrink proprietry wi fi software alongside V-Control - AFAIA it won't work with rtpmidi ?

Cheers,

Gustabo, I tried DAW Remote HD on iPad.  Works great!  Such an easy installation (uses rptMidi) compared to V-Control.  Much less expensive by comparison, and no iLok.  Their iPhone app does not seem to work, though, because it wants Live or ProTools and won't let me select generic Mackie Control Unit.  Do you know how to get around that?

Jerry, yes, I had V-Control Pro working for several years, and everything was installed.  I didn't use it for a few months and it stopped working.  I know what I'm doing with the app setup, but there's been no response from Support.

Jesse G, that's one of the threads I've read on the subject, and that one has a different approach.  Thanks.

W10 effect ?

IIRC you have to match the Neyfi to the V-Control (ie use both latest versions). If it stopped working then have you made any system changes ?

V2 of V-Control is the rental version and needs an iLok. Personally i will never purchase such a plan nor get that version.

I'll fire it up tomorrow and see what happens.
