  • Paste & Slide to Make Room: This is so egregious, it can't be a bug, can it?

Okay, so let me qualify myself first.  I started with Cakewalk 2 (25 years ago) and have exclusively used Cakewalk/Sonar since.  I have never had any issues as close as this one, so I wonder if it is just me getting old.  I currently use Sonar Platinum (upgraded from X1 Pro) and I can't complete a single project because of issue with slide to make room.

For example, when I do something as simple as paste a measure or several measures (these are all VST soft synth tracks and I had selected and copied all tracks in the project) into the project and I have "slide to make room" selected the subsequent tracks get slid over and the data is pasted, however for the measures following, an equally sized chuck of nothing gets tacked on after what I pasted.   So when I  paste (With slide to make room) 4 measures, 4 measures gets pasted + 4 measures of blank track.  But what is even weirder is the midi data disappears from the track view for next 16 measures (but the data still exists and plays).  This issue repeats itself all the time, no matter if I restart, and even after updates.  It sounds like a bug to me, but I wonder why no one else is complaining about this that I could find.

Slide Over to Make Room has been broken for a decade or more, seriously. It's one of the few 'known issues' in the Readme. The promised Ripple Editing feature should eventually replace it. In the mean time, change Drag n Drop mode to Blend, and make space for the paste manually by cut/paste, dragging, Process > Slide, etc.

Thanks Brundlefly, I guess to answer my initial question, it really is egregious....

Just wonder why I never had issues with my last 2 version, 8 and XL1.  Thanks for your response.

Im not even sure what XL 1 is (sounds like a sweatshirt size )
But if you are referring to X1, it didn't work in that either.
Lets hope Ripple editing takes care of this problem. For now Brundleflys idea is what I do.

A quick Google found this going back to Home Studio 2004 XL:

There are various manfestations, but basically the setting is unusable and has been for a long time.

It's become one of the "legacy" bugs.

it was version 1 of sonar (after previously being called pro-audio) and the "xl" version had a bunch of extra content

I believe that was simply called "XL"

Maybe that's what he was referring to, but in context it sounded like he meant Sonar 8 to X1.
I don't know maybe im wrong
