  • Mix Recall: Do you use it? Is it reliable?

I love the idea of this feature.

My first use of it when introduced was possibly an anomaly.
After saving the "main" mix and creating 2 alternate mixes, the main mix was somehow altered and not recalled properly. It was a large and fairly complex mix, so I just reverted back to a copy and never did any investigation as to what transpired.

Would like to revisit this feature, and most importantly, trust it to work as expected.
So: for those that use it all the time, any unexpected behavior or does it work all the time?

Thanks in advance!

I've noted it can be slow reloading your settings but when you realise how much it might have to do it's not surprising. Think what it took to load the song in the first place. Of course this is dependent on the size of the mix and the number of parameters you're recalling. To get it into perspective, I'm talking many seconds not minutes.

I've been using it more lately and it's been spot on from what I can see. My first big problem was to remember to put it in my workflow...  I did a few tests to put it through my worry areas in particular envelope edits / fx changes. I was impressed.
As far as speed is concerned - I agree with Mike V. It's a lot like reloading the project, but a little faster than that. I would guess it took ~5 seconds on 50 track project. Not slow enough to not use it for the freedom it brings for trying changes.

Only time I've used it is for mix reset and anytime I do it, the the prochannel is randomly turned on.

interesting. I'm doing some testing and that's one to look closer at. If your mix sounds different and you need to look at 20-30 tracks to determine if PC has been left off, that's an issue.

I have noticed you can't set a track to Archive on an alternate mix ( just Mute, not Archive).
Once archived, mix recall won't un-archive. Not a dealbreaker, just good to know about.

This is helpful; thanks for the replies.

If only one could cross use mix recall with different projects.
Be able to load settings from one project to the next. imagine the possibility's.
no more spending years setting up projects that all go to the same album (similar settings).

I have used Mix Recall but now stopped using it on regular basis. Why? Because I don't know how it behaves when rearranging, inserting, renaming, deleting and moving tracks in the mixing phase. In such projects saving different versions to disk feels safer.
Things are different when finetuning a mix after all editing has been finished for sure.

I wish Mix Recall had been there from the ancient SONAR days. Then it would be integral part of my mixing habits. :)

Recalling mix scenes from another project would be an ultimate time saver when mixing albums, just like chuckebaby mentioned.

Chuck: I remember Noel explaining how to do just that when it was first released. Could kick myself for not keeping the info. It had to do with having a 2nd project open.
