  • UAD latest update with Sonar Plat and Win 7?

Are any of you running the latest UAD updates using Windows 7 in Sonar plat? Just wondering how you are doing with everything? I've heard some horror stories about updating and am using 8.3 at the moment. I have a few little issues here and there, most of which have always been there for UAD.

You know, the sample rate message that comes every once in a while and one of the new ones I've been seeing is "one or more UAD plugins have been shut down. If the problem persists, contact UAD support. Shut your machine completely off and reboot." Something to that effect. My other two main issues are, sometimes the GUI does not move in real time. Like, meters are frozen yet if you switch the plug off and on, it IS working. Clicking X and reopening inside the FX bin shows the plug has updated since I've seen it last, but the meters are frozen. This fixes itself eventually.

The other issue I get is presets are really weird in how they act. Example, some UAD 2 plugs like Ocean Way....open a preset, tweak it in a Sonar project, save the project, reopen, and the plug has reverted back to one of the presets that is NOT the way I left it. I've been crying about this for quite a while now, but it is what it is. UAD doesn't test on Sonar, and the few times I've reached out to the Bakers for help on this, they haven't been able to help. Then I read something about plug load balancing and UAD plugs or something and I don't know what to do. LOL!

Not really crying for help here as I have accepted either: (unless someone knows the answers to some of these above)

a) UAD has flaws that can't be fixed
b) compatibility issues on my system
c) issues within Sonar
d) all of the above

I'm more interested in how you guys on Windows 7 and Sonar plat are doing with the UAD stuff. Thanks in advance.

Maybe the problem is windows 7 itself.
I'm working with UAD and Windows 10 and currently I see no problems with the newest UAD updates. I never used UAD with Windows 7 or 8.
Applying effects (VST-plugins to an audiotrack) ist almost twice as fast with "load balancing = on". But I have not tested if UAD-plugins are also faster. I would have to test that.

I have been using UAD v9 in Windows 7 64 bit and the latest version of SPLAT without any issues.  I do not use the plugin load balancing feature because it seems to mess with my BFD3 but as far as I know the UAD plugins do not make use of it anyway.  Be careful if you demo the API 2500...man it's good :)  that and the Zener Limiter are awesome!

I've reported the exact same problem here in the forums:

and a few other people reported the same problem. The good news is that I haven't seen it lately, since UAD 8.7 and Sonar Plat September update so maybe it's corrected somewhere.

I'm currently on UAD 9.0, PCIe card, Windows 10, and no issues with Sonar October 2016.

Nah, I do not believe it's Windows 7. It has worked flawlessly for me on 7 in the past. It's either a Sonar update or a UAD update. UAD doesn't test in house anymore using Sonar, so we're pretty left in the cold unless someone from the Bakery can work their magic.

That's what I was looking for, thank you! I already have the API in Waves....it's my favorite compressor of all time. :)

Yeah I've reported a few things also. Glad the issue isn't happening for you. Maybe they fixed something in the new version. I'll give it a try...thanks for the replies, guys.

If any other Win 7 users have any info, I'd love to hear what you've experienced. :)

I'm currently running SONAR Platinum (2016.10) with slightly older UAD PCIe software (rev 8.4.0). This is on Windows 7 Pro.  I have not run into any significant problems lately.  I remember the UAD meter freeze issue, but haven't seen that happen in at least 6 months (probably longer).

The biggest UAD-SONAR problem I've seen in the recent past, SONAR occasionally crashed when deleting UAD plug-ins.  I may have been trying to delete during playback.  I still tend to 'save'  before deleting UAD plug-ins.

Me too, I get that crash occasionally, but UAD 8.7 and up + Sonar September 2016 seems to be more stable in this area. I haven't had the crash for a couple of months now.

Danny,

I used UAD 8.x on Win 7 Pro 64bit right up to switching over to Win 10 Pro 64bit. No problems. Last week sometime I updated to UAD v9.x. Still no problems.

Sorry bro, wish I could help with or confirm the problems you're having.

I have had that, too, with UAD 9, Windows 10 64-bit and SPLAT. Not often, but a couple of times.

One weird and somewhat annoying thing I have had is with the Ocean Way Studios plugin: when re-opening a project, OWS seems to revert to the default setting (Remic, Studio A, drums) even though the drop-down menu window shows whatever I have chosen (and tweaked) last time. I had this an year or two ago, I think it disappeared with UAD and Sonar updates and now it seems to be back.

FWIW they do test with SONAR, however they don't officially support SONAR. This is true of a lot of companies with a lot of programs. Mostly it's about support teams maintaining a high level of expertise for the programs they consider as having the greatest number of users, as opposed to knowing "a little bit about everything."

Actually Cakewalk does the same thing with the Mac. Everyone knows SONAR works with Boot Camp, and Cakewalk tests it with the Mac. However Cakewalk doesn't officially support it on the Mac because they don't want to have to field questions like "Why do my VST plug-ins that work in Logic not work with SONAR running under boot camp?"
