MOTU said they've rebuilt the driver for the Ultralite AVB from ground up. I just installed it using this file:
MOTU Pro Audio Installer 4.0 (71271).exe
 
the previous file had a completely different name
 
MOTU AVB USB Installer 1.6 (69758).exe
 
All my inputs and outputs are messed up. In fact my headphone outs don’t even show up in Plat. When I open a project not only does the midi in and out not assign itself as usual, but all the audio outs are jumbled up. MOTU has changed all the driver names for the inputs and outputs and midi.
 
 I do use "friendly names", so it's possible that if I rename the drivers back to my friendly names that will help. Right now if I open a previous project, I have to reassign every output - time consuming!
 
Has anyone used this new driver? Same problems? Suggestions?

I've never had any problems with devices in SONAR.

You're right, they changed the name of the driver (in Windows) but SONAR doesn't care for me.
Actually maybe I did have to set up the devices in SONAR the first time (the 4.x drivers came out as be a over the summer, so I don't remember).

Just go select your i/o in Preferences (one time) and you should be fine.

Yes, you're right. I did change the friendly names making sure they were the exact spelling when using 1.6. All the audio outputs show up just fine for all projects. Although they changed the name of the mdi devices and I didn't have friendly names selected, so there appears to be no way around this, but at least this is an easy problem to fix in the box that pops up. The audio box was detailed and time consuming to straighten out.
 
Also it turns out the headphone output problem was user error. I figured out what was wrong - it was me!
 
So in my case the outcome is ok, yet I wonder about those that don't have friendly names checked for audio drivers. I would think they'd get that audio and midi box popping up on every old project. I'm going to suggest to MOTU to fix this, so it's backward compatible with the old 1.6 software.

As regards friendly names: I stopped using them (although I like the short names you can create with it) but the AVB series allows you to rename the I/O in the AVB routing matrix, which is brilliant in case of having different setups like band recording vs song arrangements i.e. using the same input for different devices (e.g. one time it is Kich OUT mic, other time it is Synth Module) ... you name the channel in the AVB, you get the name in the routing grid, monitor mix and also as Sonar I/O channel ... BTW, if you change the name and open an older project, the new name is displayed but the channel mapping sticks.
 
As regards the driver itself, look out for an update that will be released shortly because John and myself are currently on a non-public beta driver (71418) which fixed the issues we had with device connectivity.

I did install the firmware update.
 
I had no idea the AVB can rename in the routing matrix and have that name show up in Plat. That is cool. In my post above I did fix the messed up audio outputs by renaming them to the friendly names. So that resolved.
 
The only thing unresolved is I get an error window pop up for the midi output driver, since they changed the name of that too. I haven't been using friendly names for the mdi drivers, so that's why this box pops up.

I don't think Sonar cares about friendly names to re-establish MIDI connections. I think behind the lines it goes by the actual names (this has caused me many headaches because I own and use 2 X32s digi mixers, each one connects with a different MIDI ID, so I resorted to use a virtual MIDI cable to re-route depending on what is connected) ... so maybe add a feature request for Sonar.
 
If that MIDI driver box popup is caused by the MOTU, I don't think it will change with the next driver as our issues where only related to device connectivity. You should log in @ MOTU.com, register your device and ask your question (as a "techlink"). MOTU support was very helpful to sort out the issues we had.

If you don’t ever use a midi keyboard then, likely you can't help. But if you have a song that you recorded with a midi keyboard, then that means the hardware midi in and outs are saved in the CWP file.
 
Go to Preferences / midi devices and verify that you have in the Input and Output boxes the MOTU midi devices with a check box and also check to see if you have the box checked that says "use friendly names".
 
 
For all the audio drivers I was using friendly names, so when I redid them like 1.6 it all worked out. But in the case of the midi devices, I didn't have friendly names checked, simply because the midi device names were already short and concise. For MOTU the midi drivers using 1.6 are named MIDI IN and MIDI OUT.
 
I already tried checking the  friendly names box under midi devices and renaming those drivers exactly like the 1.6 driver, but that surprisingly doesn’t solve the problem when opening any old CWP files.
 
If others are getting the same problem, then I'll pass this on to MOTU, who is already looking into this.
