MIDI goes SILENT

Intermittently my midi drums, violins or what have you, will cease to make a sound!!

I find by hitting a 'midi note' or a 'key' in PRV view (most cases) the sound starts again???

If I am unsuccessful, I have to 'freeze' the track/s, to get them to play.

The size of the project does not seem to make any difference.

Any help?
Thanks

I run 8G ram, but, I am running 32 bit X1 Pro in Win 7 Professional, w/fast CPU...no issues in latency with tons of tracks and effects.

A 32 bit system can only use about 3,3 Gb of RAM, so the rest is there just for the looks.

In SONAR 8.xx randomly silenced/missing MIDI notes was often caused by too small MIDI preparation buffer("MIDI buffers, prepare using..."). Unfortunately I don't know if the answer's any good for X1.

Are using USB or MIDI connection in your keyboard? What soundcard and drivers?

SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre  -  Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc.

Thanks, yeah I get that ..that is why the "but, running 32 bit..." I should have said 4G so my question would not get off track.

    Still my issue remains!

So sorry for my frustrations peaking out...I am better now..and thank YOU so much for replying!!!
(had I not known (32 bit system can only use about 3,3 Gb)  that would have been a real surprise..
and there was a time not too long ago, I did not know that, so thanks, I do apologize Kalle)

I use roland/cakewalk ua101 usb.. I use the manual/drawing the notes in most cases although I have cakewalk 300 keyboard/controller that I sometimes use.

I am new to Midi and I have only messed with velocity..nothing else.

See if anything in this thread applies to your situation.

    MIDI and VIs Dying: Work-Around

I believe we are experiencing the same issue, but I don't know enough about your situation.  Key points:

    - MIDI dies sometimes on virtual instruments and sometimes on external MIDI modules.
    - Sometimes various notes will fail to play when clicked in Staff view.  There is no obvious pattern.
    - I can always fix this by clicking the MIDI Panic button.  (It's on the Control bar under the time display and looks like a MIDI plug with a line through it.  Sorry if you know that already.)
    - I have a 64-bit system with an i7 processor.  I just upgraded from 6 to 12 GB of memory.  Don't know yet if that will affect the issue.
    - My MIDI buffer in Preferences in set to 700 ms per a Cakewalk bulletin that seems to apply to this.  I have not been able to tell that the buffer increase helped, however.

    Thanks konradh,
I will check it out and do write a follow up.
It sounds like we are experiencing the same thing
..I am running Sonar X1 32b on Win 7 prof 64b..dual core plenty fast enough.

    Thanks for the reply!
