one would think that software design is a random, archane world that defies science & logic...

It isn't?!!?!! Most of the developers I know think they are God himself. Defying any limitations assigned to them.

Is this mute tool behavior annoying or stopping you dead in your tracks? There is always a workaround if you are interested.

Effectively it is stopping me in my tracks. (I don't know if you intended the pun....but **I** did. :-]) I work a full time job, and I'm practicing to get ready for orchestra auditions. NOT being able to use the Sonar 4 Mute Tool has proved to be a major inconvenience. It takes several times as long to edit with the workarounds.

I paid for Sonar. I would like for its tools to work properly. This is my attitude whenever I buy something; AND it's my attitude when I sell a product. If it doesn't work as it should, I will fix it (my preference -- because I'd like you to be happy with my product), or refund your money.

Is my posting about this issue bothering you?

Oh...and YES: Taking time to create the demo & pictures and to post all of this has been inconvenient also. But I've spent enough time editing with workarounds and fighting with the Mute Tool that I chose to try this route, hoping for better results. I would have simply purchased a second DAW package (Audition, ProTools M-Powered, etc.) for audio & audio-to-video work, but another $300 isn't in the budget till I finish some more paid projects. :-) Plus, it would be much more efficient to do all my work in Sonar, rather than switch between two packages; but that's probably asking too much from one piece of software.

Some users on this forum only care if it's bugs that affect them ...

You're request is legit. I'm still on 4.04 myself and would like to see it be a "finished" version before moving on.

Later,

Dude

Yes. That would be very reassuring; and I think it would give Cakewalk a stronger professional-level image.

Sonar is quite an amazing software package -- in concept. Even without any more FEATURES, I think I could manage everything fairly efficiently in Sonar 4, if ALL the major parts worked correctly & consistently. [I would probably add the latest version of Goldwave in order to have a pencil tool and a few other WAV editing functions, and perhaps some more mastering plug-ins.]
