You'd be better off getting something like DR008 as a sample player and surfing the web for some hip hop/d'n'b midi files to get the general idea.

I think GrooveMonkee sells midi files - if you search this forum I'm sure you'll find him.

I'll have a look and add an edit if I can find the link.

    See above

I'd also try searching the net. Not my genre I'm afraid - more of a trance man myself!

yes. but you need a software sampler that will read the incoming MIDI messages and play back samples.

Battery or DR-008 are commonly-used drum software that might be worth checking out. Various CDs of loops are available, and one very common trick is chopping up the loops into individual hits or breaks to make your own beats and fills. Lots of hip-hop and drum and bass producers make an art form out of sampling drum breaks and chopping them up and mangling them in all sorts of creative ways. For more "classic" electronic synth-drum sounds, the Roland 808 and 909 drum machines are pretty much the sound of hip-hop. The orignal hardware boxes are quite expensive these days, but almost any software drum box will have samples of these two.

    Cheers.

Yes. send your Sonar midi in to the midi out on your drum machine, and your Sonar midi out to the midi in on your drum machine. your drum machine can interact with Sonar just as well as any midi keyboard with only the obvious drum machine vs keyboard limitations.

to answer your second question, you could use sonar's session drummer, or slicy drummer. They already have pre made midi drum tracks that can be easily edited. Hope that helps...you may also try dr-008, or fruitty loops, or project5 or something like that!!

for those same sounds, you could just check out vsc, but use it in GS mode!!

Cyclone DXi will let you control multiple sound samples/loops and it comes with sonar (just did this myself for my drum machine based on a tip from this forum). You'll have to create a setup with the Cyclone pad notes the same as what the pads on the drum machine send out midi wise.

I noticed there was a plugin that shows what notes you are playing on a midi device. I assume it came with Sonar... I don't remember the name, but that helped me match the drum machine up to Cyclone really quick (those notes are generally listed in the drum machine's manual too).
