This is just the beginning.

I've been discussing with an old friend of mine the idea of a hybrid hang drum and hammered dulcimer.

It came about after talking with a group of old Nashville cats that I'm acquainted with who know about the sweetened tunings passed down the line, the concept involves a quality bicycle wheel laid flat with a parabolic acoustic reflector underneath (similar to a trash can lid).  The wheel is then played with the dulcimer hammers.

We've got a spokesperson in who assures us he can introduce a graduated tension on each of the spokes which will solve any intonation issues we may run into.

We've been running tests in my music room and my modded right-angle SM-57 seems to be bringing out the good stuff.

Let the games begin.

Good times.

;-)

Best regards.

Derek & Clive - now we're talking. Did you ever here any of their stuff Steve. At one stage pre-divorce I had Derek & Clive get the horn, ad nauseum and one other that slips my mind now. EDIT: Just remembered Derek & Clive Live...

Hilarious and er..... not quite PC either.

Oh yes mate, wonderful stuff.

We used to do some of the sketches in the common room at school, much in the same way that everyone else used to do Monty Python's Parrot sketch, or the 'Is this the right room for an argument' sketch.

I still have the Ad Nauseam LP (in its original clear 'sick bag' sleeve) and the Derek and Clive Live LP. I've since picked them both up on CD, as well as Come Again on CD. On DVD I've got Derek and Clive Get the Horn and the BBC's Best of Peter Cook & Dudley Moore.  I recently picked up Spike Milligan's wonderful The Bed Sitting Room on Blu-Ray; not specifically Pete and Dud (although they play major roles in the film) but a wonderfully off the wall film that features a host of great British funny men and comedic actors, including Harry Secombe. Arthur Lowe, Roy Kinnear, Spike himself, Ronald Fraser, Jimmy Edwards, Dandy Nichols, Marty Feldman and Frank Thornton, who is wonderfully cast as "The BBC"!
