Midnight Minuet, w/Scott C. remixed, 1/27

Finally, a not-so-boring one from me.    Scott did his parts and mixed it faster than I laid down the piano part.  And he did an amazing job, as always.  I hope you enjoy it.  It's my favorite one (of mine) so far.

I'll admit...the piano track was helped a bit by input quantize.  I rarely use that, but tried it on this one.  Then I noticed it didn't put the notes exactly where they were supposed to be (left hand chords are 1/8 beat off.)  I was horrified at first, then realized it was pretty cool.  Unfortunately I probably couldn't play it this way, but oh well.    (what good is having a DAW if you can't fudge a little bit?)  :-)

Scott, take a bow, sir!

Midnight Minuet

Scott 'fiddled' with the piano and other dynamics a bit.  Thanks, Scott!! :-)  And thanks for all your great comments, guys!

Just damn... Really beautiful. Scotty's part gives it almost a Russian or Eastern European feel to me.  There were some shades of his performance from Mark Stothard's "Brother" to me, but that's fine, because I think his performance on that one was most excellent :-)

As I was listening to this I was picturing a luxury car commercial! With a voice over, and this playing underneath?

    Something like this, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=thqRduyx3T4

Maybe you should give Mercury a call?

This is just fabulous!  I love it!  probably my favorite of yours yet!

scotty - excellent chops my friend!

man - I love the dynamics in this!  the urgent feeling from the arpeggiated notes and staccato bowing moving to the slower 1/8th notes and legato bowing.  that's just fan-frickin' tastic!

no crits on the mix, either.  this is just great music!

    BRAVO to both of you!

Hey Janet, I suppose while you are calling Mercury, you might as well call Hummer, Saturn, Pontiac & Oldsmobile, since none of them are in business anymore.

Hi Janet and Scott, Excellent with a capital E and maybe a few exclamation marks !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wonderful playing you both. The violin sounds nice and haunting in a sort of "Danse Macabre" sort of way.

    Greetings, Rik

P.S. This is definitely not boring and beyond charming, Janet

I found myself grinning wide while listening. A kind of Rockin' Hungarian Rhapsody. Some aggressive chops, there, Janet, it's got a drive to it. And Scott's strings complement your part impeccably. Great tune well performed. I love it.

Thanks Rich.  It's sorta hard to go wrong with Scott onboard. :-)

Thanks, Mike. Well, this one's certainly not boring. :-) And yes, Scott's strings are always believable, and amazing.  I'm glad you like how it calms down at the end.  I heard this again last night for the first time in awhile and wondered if I shouldn't have picked it up again after the middle section.  I'm glad this works for you, since it's a little late now to change it. lol

Studiocat, thank you!  Now my challenge is to write another one this fun.  lol

Thank you, Rik!  (with a few exclamation marks.)  :-)  So we have to think of a new adjective now?  lol

Thanks Herb.  Yeah, there's one in every crowd.  lol

Mark, it has the same affect on me (makes me grin) (with Scott's parts added I mean.)  Thank you sir!  And yes, impeccable is a good way to describe his contribution.

When I saw this thread I thought this was gonna be the one you mentioned that you were waiting for Scott to put some guitar on, so I found myself waiting for the guitar to come in and so was probably a bit distracted on first listen, so I decided no to comment and come back with fresh ears. Very nicely done both. I found myself wondering if it would sound better at a slower tempo as in parts it felt a little like you were in a bit of a hurry. Not a crit as such - I'd be as pleased as a very happy person with a particular reason to feel very happy if I could play anywhere close to as well as this, just my thoughts as a listener. Very minor nit-pick would be to nix Scotty's last bit after your final flourish - I think it would sound better without that. Sorry Scotty ! ;)

Dave, what great ideas for song names!  Thanks!  :-)

Thanks John.  Glad you liked it. :-)

Paulo, I must have mentioned that he's played guitar on at least one of my songs.  Not this one though.  :-)  Slower, eh?  Well, it would be easy enough for me to slow the midi down, but I'd hate to ask Scott to start all over.  Glad you liked it the second time. :-)

    Thanks so much Tatey!  :-)

Thank you all for commenting. The thread title is a bit embarrassing, but I think Janet likes to embarrass me.

Paulo, I put the ending on, because it ended too abruptly in my opinion. Easy enough to delete or change, but I'll leave it up to Ms. Janet.

Jamesyoyo, I can remix with the piano in streo and see if I can keep it from stepping on the fiddles. I'll be happy to give it a try.

Wow, that was really fantastic. At first I wasn't crazy about the piano tone, but then I realized that this is exactly the tone the piano should have for this genre. Very well played and Scotty just played spot on perfectly. Laid-back where it needed to be and out front where he belonged. Such a perfect mix. You both held your own so well yet complemented each others parts perfectly. Now this is the epitome of a collaboration of talent! P.S. nice ending Scotty!

Jim:  I was probably wearing leather when I wrote it....

Cliff...I didn't expect it either.  :-)  You listened twice?  Wow! :-)  And thank you!

    Mathew, thank you very much!

Thank you, Daryl, and yes, I wrote it.  Of course, Scott's parts are the icing on the cake.  I think I watched Phantom of the Opera right before I sat down and played this.  Maybe I should expand my movie-watching to come up with more cool stuff like this.  :-)

Thank you, Kiki.  I'd have to practice a whole lot to be able to play this through in one sitting.  But it would sure be fun to try.  :-)

Thanks, Jim.  I knew he'd do a superb job, but it still blows me away every time I hear it.  :-)
