thanks for the tip.
is it substantially better than garritan pocket orchestra?
IMO, yes! It smokes the "Pocket" orchestra that comes with Dimension. It is comparable to the significantly better Garritan "Personal" Orchestra. At that price it's a definite no brainer.

Herb
I got it over the week end........

I was able to install it between yesterday  and this morning.....from the very little test I did I think that it sounds better than GPO 4....

but that is just initially.....I thinkif combined they could sound pretty good!

Glyn, thanks for the heads up on the Miroslav Philharmonic (Classic)!

I decided to get that and T-Racks singles ($39.99 each, reduced from $99) see thread: http://www.esoundz.com/details.php?ProductID=4696

After I registering both products I then noticed I have $21 in Jam-Points (discount) for toward my next order on Ikmultimedia gear, I might also get the reverb (CSR)!

Anyway, those are great deals! Could not be happier :)

I got this the other day. I mainly tried out the piano samples and they are really good. To me, they are miles ahead of the Dim Pro pianos and better than Truepianos as far as an authentic sounding grand piano. And that's all I have to compare right now.

thanks superfly. according to your feedback about pocket orch and jimbo21's about trupianos, it might be a no brainer after all. i think gpo and trupianos both sound good, so a step up from both would be worth 15 bucks.
thanks again.

hello,
i took the suggestion and bought the 'no brainer.'
just installed it (i think), but sonar is not showing it with the other soft synths.

edit:
i got a bit off track with the process and forgot to download and run the authorization manager. just did that, all went well, still don't see it. will rescan and try again.
this is somewhat confusing...

First thing I would do is... Run it in 'Stand-Alone', check audio settings, then have a play to check the libraries are there. Close it then open Sonar (without loading a project) and rescan.

The appropriate VST folder will contain a DLL file named Philharmonik.dll and possibly an INI file too.

Do what SongCraft says and run it as standalone first to initialise and register it.

One other thing, when you installed the plugin and libraries did you take note of what directory folder it got installed?,  at worse you can search Windows to see exactly where (directory/folders) it all got installed.

From memory I think I just went with 'defaults' installs, plugin, then instrument libraries, all to default directories/folders, then activated, rebooted PC and then ran standalone (As I explained in my previous post), and then opened in Sonar, scanned for plugins, it's all there and is running solid as a rock and light on resources (impressive)!.

Got a midi keyboard hooked up?, you can use stand-alone to perform live.  Click on the shortcut, open it like another program, check audio settings, load up a part (instruments), dial up a midi chn to match and away you go :)

Late Edit:
Sorry, my eyes are playing tricks on me, I thought you said 'did' create a shortcut.  My wife is calling out for me, gotta go. Hope you get it all sorted out and working in Sonar. All the best!

You may find that it is already in the Start Menu.  If not, find the file Philharmonik.exe and create a shortcut to it.

i found it and scanned. it shows up now, so that's good.
trying to get it to respond to a midi file, not playing back.
the interface will take some getting used to...

thanks for your help it is appreciated.
sometimes new installations go smoothly, sometimes not so smooth.

edit:
i can hear it when i click the gui, and i see it responding to the midi data on part 5, but my violin is on part 1.

edit 2:
got it to play. had to double click the instrument while part 5 was selected.

thanks again for the help.

haha thanks song craft, i figured that. i eventually tracked it down and scanned it properly.
now i have to learn how to use it. at first try, it doesn't seem to be just "plug and play." it looks like i might have to, dare i say it... read the instructions. hate when that happens.
thanks again,
matt

If you haven't got the Free SampleTank 2.5, you should get it as it comes with 500MB of sounds and both these products run on the same engine (meaning you can use the sounds on both synths). It's pretty much a plug & play instrument (add the built in Fx and you're good to go). What's nice is with 1 instance of SampleTank, you play 16 instruments all at once!! :)  [link=http://www.ikmultimedia.com/sampletankfree/features/]http://www.ikmultimedia.c..ampletankfree/features/[/link]

hello again,
my apologies, in my endeavors to get this plug in instaled and running properly, i forgot to list the default location of the installation where the vst folder scan should be added in sonar. that would be here:

c:\program files (x86)\vst plugins

seems simple enough, but it had me stumped for about an hour or so. there are a few other locations that could seem just as simple.

thanks for the reminder mesh,
i saw that free sample-tank download, but i didn't want to lose focus on install miroslav ce, so i will go back and download that some time today hopefully. from your description, it sounds like a general midi synth. if so, awesome. they are very useful.

thanks again to all.

For a more realistic performance, I use the Mod Wheel on my controller (especially when playing strings) which gives it a more lively feel.
I've also been trying to keep a handle on all my VST's (since each software installs a folder in C: Program Files). I have all my VST's inside C: Program Files\Cakewalk\Paid VST (and another for Free VST) so that I don't have to add all kinds of locations for the scanner to see it.
There's a Group Buy going on over at Esoundz website for all the IK Multimedia Synths (full version & each for $99) with some bonus sound packs after they reach 100 users.... I got lucky on The Stupid Deal of the Day at Musicians Friend (last week) and got Sonik Synth2 for $49.99!!

DAMN!

When i read this, i was  too late. I once bought another no-brainer deal, it was some loops and samples (R.A.W or Rex/??????/Wave) and for $20 i was very happy with it. It was about 3GB. You get to choose 3 out of 7 genres of loops, i got all the trance/techno stuff.

Check out my band's song on YouTube!
