Music Creator 3

I have had music creator for a couple of years now.Just bought a laptop to do my music on but I do not have a clue to what I am doing. My laptop is an acer aspire 5515,it has 3gb ram,amd atholon 2650 processor,160gb hard drive, and windows vista.I have got cakewalk loaded on my computer and that is it. I also have a tascam pocketstudio 5 digital 4 track recorder. I was going to use the tascam to record my vocals and my guitar then import them into cakewalk and make my final mixes and then put it on cd.I don't know how I am suppose to set all this up,I don't understand half of the lingo that I read. Can anyone help me get started?

So what were you doing with it for a couple of years?
First, MC 3 is not compatible with Vista, so that might cause some problems. You can try right-clicking the MC 3 icon on your desktop and find the 'Compatibility' tab and set it to run in XP compatibility mode. Also select 'Run As Administrator'.
What is it specifically you can't figure out? The more we know of your process, what you've tried already, the better we can help you.

Unfortunately, Cakewalk 3 is not compatible with Vista. You will need to upgrade to MC4, which is.

Kinda what they said.... it doesn't work well with Vista..... upgrade to MC4..... you'll get TTS... it's worth the price to upgrade just for TTS.

It will not play? Or it plays and you can't hear anything? Try changing the driver mode to MME. 'Options>Audio>General>Driver mode'.
But it's hit and miss. You may or may not ever get it to work.

Yes, MC 4 was written with Vista in mind. It may take some setting-up, like all programs, but most of the folks here have it. $35 download.

MC 4, being a $35 download, will work with Vista. SONAR 8 HS will also work, and has more bells and whistles than MC, but isn't downloadable, and is more costly. I have SONAR HS 6, and I love it. I also have MC 2003 and MC Pro 24.
If you're looking for more effects, processes and instruments, and the capability of recording more than 2 simultaneous inputs (with a multi-input audio interface), and don't mind paying more, then get it. You won't be sorry (I hope!).
Note: all the newer Cakewalk programs come on a DVD, not a CD, so you need a DVD reader in your machine.

I have MC4.... yep... paid $35 downloaded. I find it to be quite capable for doing all that I need & want. The bigger platforms come bundled with some nice add-ons and some nice plugins.... but they are not necessary....lessen you just wants them.

The bigger platforms allow more tracks and more simultanous inputs..again..if you need that.

I will keep MC4 and my money... for now. I don't need to upgrade in order just to have the latest wizzbang.
