no problem - just wanted to make sure you knew that a logical partition would slow performance down even more.

I just recently purchased an Asus 1005HA-VU1X-WT 1.6 GHz160GB 10.1-inch Netbook  with 1gb memory running windows xp. I am also wanting to use my Tascam US-144MKii audio interface since the integrated soundcard will not cut it. I won't be doing any overdubs at all. All I am going to use this setup for is to record band practice.

Here is the problem. I went to hook up the USB audio interface, but didn't seem to work. The netbook reconized the hardware and I did install the drivers for it. not using a condser mic, so no phantom power is needed.  Not sure if any of you have seen the tascam i have but when it was plugged into the netbook, the usb light lights up, but the input lines aren't working. I know that the audio interface beacuse I use it on my Dell desktop. All I can think of is that netbook does not supply enough juice to power the audio interface. Could this be correct?

After installing MC and the TASCAM drivers, did you go to 'Options>Audio' in MC and run the Wave Profiler?
MC has to 'see' the TASCAM and then you need to select it's Drivers and make it both your Recording and Playback Timing Master. Deselect the onboard sound card. too.
You may have to close and re-open MC for the changes to take effect, depending on which version you have.

XP is a good platform..... In either computer...and you can actually load MC5 on both machines for YOUR personal use only.  I would buy a USB interface (about $200 give or take) and that way you can use it on either computer.

I did get it working. Thatnks to Gregy and his suggestion. I ran the profiler but it still didn't see it. I noticed that if I changed the driver to another option it worked.

The VS-20 is said to operate with a netbook. If I were just getting started this would look real good at 300 bones.

also see here and check the specs for use with netbook

Soundcard/interface, Daw software included, ability to record line level instruments (guitar, bass) also use a mic for vocals or to record instruments using a mic, onboard mics to use, the built in guitar effects, and the whole thing works as a control surface to have hands on control of your software. Pretty attractive!
