Music Creator 5 - download version
Has anyone had experience with this version? I haven't been able to access the Sound Control Center (and other stuff). Is it possible to upgrade to the full version? I need more instruments. Thanks, Martin

which operating system are you using? there have been several reports of people who can't get the soundcenter to work with vista 64. and for the record, MC5 is not listed as being compatible with Vista 64, only vista 32.

from Cakewalk FAQ: Any application that is specifically supported under Vista or Windows 7, has also been approved to function under Vista x64 or Windows 7 x64 (in 32-bit emulation mode). This means that if an application such as: Guitar Track Pro 4, Music Creator 5, or SONAR Home Studio 7 does not list 64-bit OS support on he packaging or system requirements, this is only referring to native 64-bit support. Unlike SONAR, the for mentioned programs contain only 32-bit versions of the program, whereas SONAR contains separate 32-bit and 64-bit applications on the disc. If you are running a 32 bit program under an x64 Operating System you should expect it to work just as well as running under a 32-bit OS; however, you will not see the same benifits as a SONAR x64 user, such as increased RAM utilization. 32-bit applications are still limited to accessing 2-3GB of RAM even in a 64-bit environment. -- Anyway, I have the same problem as Martin, I'm running MC5 under Windows7 64bit and I'm pretty sure that Cakewalk Sound Center has been installed (I see its Uninstall in Add/Remove programs).

filo - that's a good statement - where did you find that? and on that statement, soundcenter SHOULD work in Vista 64 running in 32bit app mode. but if it's not, then cake needs to fix it. you'll have to contact cake tech support if it doesn't.

OK - then it that case it should work just fine regardless of the reported problems. go to OPTIONS>GLOBAL>VST FOLDERS and verify that the c:\program files\cakewalk\music creator\vst folder (or something very similar, I don't remember the exact folder names) is listed in the folders to scan. if it's not listed, then add it. then press the SCAN VST's button.

I found it listed under 'programs and features' too (2.06 MB) - so we know it's there. I'm presuming you're not running the download version. I contacted support. martin622292

I am not following what you're saying. are you saying I'm not running the download version? no, I'm not. but the dll file for the soundcenter is exactly the same as the download version as it is for the boxed version. the content library is the only thing different. the dll file will not be 2.06M - you've probably found the LIBRARY content. the dll file will be quite small (MUCH less than 1M - typically in the 10k range at most).

Found it ! Martin, try this: Go to Tools/Plug-in Manager to scan. I found that the Sound Center DLL wasn't in the default directory and had to add C:\Program Files\Vstplugins\Cakewalk Sound Center to the paths. it is from thread http://forum.cakewalk.com/tm.aspx?m=1775156 (thank you SH :-))

Once you get the exact path, you can easily tell cake to find and scan a vst anywhere on your computer. It really helps to have all the files in one easy to find place. I like to make a folder for each VST and then tell cake where it is after I unzip/install to that folder.

Thanks Guitarhacker I tried looking for a Sound Center DLL file - all I found was this path: C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Cakewalk Sound Center . . . to Documentation - HTML Help file unins000 - DAT file unins000 - Application Does this mean I don't have the file? Thanks, Martin622292

it's been a long time since I installed it. The first question would be...did you install it after unzipping it? on my computer here's the path.... ( I usually (99% of the time) allow all programs to install where they want) my path: c:/program files/cakewalk/vstplugins/cakewalk sound center/cakewalksoundcenter.dll if the path is there but the DLL is not there... there is a chance you have not yet installed the program properly.
