bitflipper As I understand it, becan is allowed under Atkins' plan. So are becan cheeseburgers. You just can't have the bun. Which tends to lead to ketchup running down your arm. Ya,you're right bit, becan and cheeseburgers are allowed on the Atkins diet.I remember Hardee's had a "bunless" burger for a while about 10 years ago. They wrapped it in a couple of big pieces of lettus,it was pretty good.

Instead, I get a chocolate Protein shake. made with water. mmmmm..... Protien shakes mixed with water are horrible,I always mixed mine with skim or 1% milk, they tasted a little bit better and added a litle bit more protien.Protien plays a big part in keeping your metabolism going.

I agree - thus the comment (I was being sarcastic!). when I make them at home I make them with skim milk. at work, it's more difficult to do logisitically. and I'm only allowed 1/2 cup of skim milk per day on this plan anyway. the plan I'm on is high protein low carb. we're allowed 2 starches per day (though I've found that I don't really lose very quickly if I eat both starches), but those starches are only about 40-60 calories each to give you an idea of the size and amount. and they are very limited in WHAT starches you can have. this plan is VERY restrictive, actually. I get quite tired of it sometimes.

KFC's been doing something like that here. Two chicken breast halves as the "bread" other yummy stuff in between. Very evil. And tasty!

I saw a nice (I think it was British) document about Atkins diet. They observed it from many different angles, and included many reseach projects from all over the world. The result was, that the diet simply works, but the whole mechanism the way it was explained by dr. Atkins was mostly imaginary. For example, they did not find any proof of the ketose process having anything to do with it, as it did not differ from that of the comparison groups. The conclusion was: Protein triggers the "stomach full" message in ones brains so much quicker (shorter delay), that the persons on protein diet actually ate clearly less (calories) than the other comparison groups. One experiment that I can remember was: They made two kinds of porridge-type meals. The taste, colour, structure and energy content of those porridges was identical, but one was made of high protein ingredients, and the other was more like a vegetarian version. The ones who ate protein porridge ate less.

The taste, colour, structure and energy content of those porridges was identical, but one was made of high protein ingredients, and the other was more like a vegetarian version. The ones who ate protein porridge ate less. On the Dukan diet the thing is a certain amount of oatbran per day, as although that isn't protein rich it doesn't have to be it just provides bulk to give a long lasting 'full' feeling and provides the extra fibre needed to break down a largely protein based diet. Dukan doesn't put any restriction on how much or when you eat the basis is simply a list of 'allowed' foods, through 3 different phases of the weight loss plan, lean meat home made burgers, becan and eggs among them that you can eat as much as you like of. I never found I was hungry once during the three months it took me to lose 40lb. My desire for sweet things diminished greatly very quickly and by the time I got to being driven nuts by a lack of carbs things like bread slowly get re-introduced as you progress. During the later phase you are given a 'celebration' day where you can fill yer boots on whatever you fancy, so a blow-out in your favourite restaurant is allowed, nay encouraged, once a week. I really did find it painless, which is important as there's nothing that promotes a compensatory binge better than feeling 'deprived' or cheated out of something. The other side of the coin is of course if you live a very sedantary life-style then you'd best take up at least 30 minutes walking or the equivalent excercise daily otherwise your dietary efforts are most likely to end up being wasted. There's no major workout required by any means and it is better you incorporate a little excercise that you can keep up consistently as an enjoyable feature of your day rather than go into Olympic intensity training and give it up in a fortnight. Most of these hi-protein low carb regimes will work, but as with anything you do have to work it the only reason the Dukan regime appealed to me was that it seemed much less of a regime and doesn't just end when you've lost the weight it provides you with a workable plan for the rest of your life to help ensure you don't need a weight loss plan in the future. It worked for me and it's still working since I started last Autumn (Fall).

Beagle Jonbouy ,I've done the Atkins diet 3 times Hmmm. I think diet success would be measured by how few times you needed it. I've only ever dieted once. I don't intend to have the need do it again, hence my recommendation. I'm always on a diet. I mean....isn't the alternative to stop eating????? Pedant... OK diet meaning weight loss regime here...

When I had my heart attack I was given 'marching orders'(hey, don't blame me!! That was exactly what my doctor called them!! ) to avoid anything with salt in it, anything involving cholesterol..that meant all meats and eggs and et cetera..by the way...that also included BECAN!!! ..and to basically become next to a vegan....I did do that for awhile until my weight started to come down... Then I had a visit with a dietition who told me that the doctor relented on the NO!! diet and gave me a diet that was portion controlled....which works wonders...for me Oh..and the idea of walking? Great idea!! Walks now go for about 6-8 miles 5 times a week!!

If you're serious, why don't you make your own meals based on Atkins? And you don't have to follow it exactly. Just limit your total calories, and put your carbohydrates lowest. I lost 10lbs in about a month, with a calorie deficit of 1000 for the period, loosely based on Atkins, but i only knew it was called that after losing 10lbs. I knew it as a "very low-carb diet". -EDIT- With no exercise. Now i started weightlifting, i changed the deficit to 500, since i need the post-workout drinks/meals.
