My Backyard ** Mellowed without Hiss??? **
Hi all, It's been a while since I've posted something. This one was inspired by the sounds that I recorded in my backyard. This is an original acoustic Jazz tune which is long but very relaxing to listen to. Thanks in advance for your time and comments. **** Remixed and added a Sax ***** My Backyard

Interesting collection of sounds and textures. Nice phrasing on the guitar improvs. I like the tree frogs or whatever those are. A little more intense than my backyard.

Tap, Ambient Jazz guitar. Very creative interp of your backyard! As Robby mentioned, there are too many snakes there though. Nice playing!

Hi James , I like this, it took a couple of listens but I like it. That hiss is pretty annoying and the wildlife could be a bit softer imho. Like the free approach to the guitars, inspiring. Greetings, Rik

Tap, Very atmospheric piece, here. It reminds me most of Bill Frizzel, particularly his work with Paul Motian. Its got that sort of 'out-there' feel. Enjoyed it. Bert

All, Thanks for the listen and comments. This started out as a simple recording of some nature sounds that I recorded on my voice recorder. The song started taking shape when I sat down to the piano (controller) and started to improvise to the noise. I really wanted to record my new guitar, which came out pretty well and then added a bass part. I really hadn't intended to do much with this, except experiment. Geno - Thanks for the listen and comments. Yeah, the backyard was quite noisy when I recorded it. Robby - No Snakes were harmed in the recording. Rick - I'll have to try to keep the Snakes at Bay. I'll try a remix tonight. Rik - Thanks for listening and commenting. I'll see what I can do about the ambiance. Bert - Thanks for the listen as well. I've never been compared to Bill Frizzel and that certainly is a great compliment. I should listen to more of his stuff. G-Bob - Glad you enjoyed the guitar playing. The song was unplanned and very free form. I like to play spontaneously at times. Phil - Thanks for taking the time to listen and comment. I'll revisit the hisses.

Nice and smooth. I'd still recommend lowering the hiss, it's pretty overpowering (and obviously not a Toronto backyard - lol). Other than that, i wouldn't change a thing.

Sort of like some of the experimental jazz of the 70's (****es Brew) . Certainly not my cup of tea, but the track is well done and mixed. Smooth and ambient.

Hey, James! I didn't hear this before the remix. this is very laid back cool! I really like the acoustic. instrumentation kind of gets chaotic at times, but I suppose that's what you're going for considering the subject! however, I do find the 'hiss' annoying. sorry, just being honest. I do like this, tho! cool stuff!

Thanks Bapsy, Tony, Scotty, Matt, Vincente, Frank, Mark, Reece, and Mark for your ears and patience. I think there were some really good things here and some bad hisses as well. Also, I know that the improvisation gets a bit busy. I'll address these in future projects and I really appreciate all of your inputs. Thanks again.....I'll get there! At least I know I can get a nice sounding acoustic guitar recorded now and the Bass / Keys were pretty good as well. I really need to try to get a decent jazzy drum sound. I used an orchestral set for this one.

Hi, James, Very nice, relaxing piece of ambient jazz music! Great playing, as always, beautiful clean tones, and a nice clear, wide, airy sounding mix. The nature sound effects added a realistic sense of atmosphere to the whole production. Great work, James! Bob

Maybe you've posted a new mix, but I don't hear the hissing. I hear crickets. :-) Interesting concept and nice to listen to. It was not relaxing to me. That's cool, though. I am just saying that because you said it is. One person's relaxation is another's , well not relaxation. too much going on at once for me to relax. :-) The player just stopped dead on me and I can't get it started again. Hmmmm. I haven't herd sax yet. I'll try again.

Thanks for the listen Dan, glad you enjoyed it. Bob, it's always an honor to have you listen to my stuff, my former Pennsylvanian neighbor. I'd also like to thank SoundClick for leaving Warren with nothing but crickets at his first attempt. Thanks for your patience Warren. I added the Sax just for relaxation

Where exactly do you live ? If I step outside I hear pigeons and the odd car going past - none of this stuff lol ! Have to agree that the hissing sound does seem to overpower ( at least it does on my laptop speakers ). I like the guitar and sax tones, but the percussion sounds maybe a little too random to my ears. Interesting listen though.

Thanks for the listen Paulo. I'm currently in Canada. The sounds were actually recorded near by a lake which is is only a short walk. I'm having problems getting good jazz drum sounds. Thanks for the listen Janet. Yeah the song is a bit busy, isn't it. So are the cicadas!

About 30 seconds into the song, I closed my eyes and just focused on listening. You've captured this live setting of jazz musicians, sitting/playing outside around the mics. 'peepers' and all! Kudos on all the guitar and sax work, but the light drumming and the bass was solid, yet had it's own improv thing going on as well. I have to listen to this a few times as there are soo many subtle/interwoven parts being played. Instruments are clean and detailed and the song works for me!

Larry - Thanks ever so much for your inspiring words. That is exactly the focus I was trying to achieve. It all started on a nice night that I decided to record some of the environmental sounds that I found so relaxing to listen to. As I imported the wav file, I pictured just that. A gathering of some of my old friends out on the porch playing some instruments to this inspiring background ( of course it was really only me playing the instruments ). I had just purchased a new acoustic guitar (a Norman), which I hoped would record well. I think I made a wise purchase.
